Tried that several times and didn't work.
But I found out what the bug was. I had disabled the lucid-updates repository 
since I was only interested in security updates. Once I re-enabled the 
repository, samba installed without issues.
I guess it can be marked resolved. Thanks for you patience.

You should be installing samba version 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.1.  All
components of the samba package should be at that level.

Please try:
 $ sudo apt-get update
 $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
 $ sudo apt-get install samba

   Status: New => Incomplete

** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low
