Tried that several times and didn't work. But I found out what the bug was. I had disabled the lucid-updates repository since I was only interested in security updates. Once I re-enabled the repository, samba installed without issues. I guess it can be marked resolved. You should be installing samba version 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.1. All components of the samba package should be at that level.
