Public bug reported: 1. installed, very standard. 2. Stopped mysqld with the mysql-admin gui 3. I did sudo mv /var/lib/mysql /srv/mysql this allows me to more easily rsync the database. 4. Tried to restart the mysqld with the gui, then /enc/init.d/mysql start, but it complained: 110827 17:30:32 [Warning] Can't create test file /srv/mysql/caes-srv-00.lower-test a few times then: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) 5. move it back to the default 6. try to restart, to no avail, although the 'can't create' complaint is gone. 7. try to uninstall mysql-server 8. it didn't and now shows up in the broken list. 9. Here I am at Launchpad.
