[Bug 1031795] Re: package postfix 2.9.3-2~12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-08-04 Thread Clint Byrum
Setting up postfix (2.9.3-2~12.04.1) ...

Postfix configuration was not changed. If you need to make changes, edit
/etc/postfix/main.cf (and others) as needed. To view Postfix configuration
values, see postconf(1).

After modifying main.cf, be sure to run '/etc/init.d/postfix reload'.

Running newaliases
 * Stopping Postfix Mail Transport Agent postfix
[ OK ]
 * Starting Postfix Mail Transport Agent postfix
postfix/postfix-script: fatal: the Postfix mail system is already running

Does that mean though that the restart action of the init script does
not actually make sure postfix is stopped? That seems like a bug. I
notice the command does:

if ! ${CMD} quiet-stop; then
RET=1
fi

and a RET of 1 would make it not print [OK], so it seems to me that the
quiet-stop command is not actually waiting for postfix to die.

[Bug 1028718] Re: nova volumes are inappropriately clingy for ceph

2012-08-04 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Paul. You might be interested to hear about Cinder, which is meant to
be a better volume management tool. Ceph's developers feel that the
approach being taken in Cinder will work better for ceph backed volumes.

This sounds like a legitmate issue with nova-volume, and since the bug
has effectively been forwarded upstream, I'm going to mark this bug in
Ubuntu as Triaged with a Medium importance. I'm also adding a task for
cinder so the developers can assess whether this is solved or even a
duplicate of something they're already working on.

Given that we have ceph 0.48 in Quantal, which uses leveldb for the

One concern though is that this embeds "yet another" copy of a SHA2
algorithm.. and its even likely that this one has been embedded
elsewhere so that may present maintenance problems if a problem is ever
found with this particular code.

[Bug 945176] Re: Support privateIpAddress and ipAddress

2012-08-06 Thread Clint Byrum
On initial investigation of the given patch, it seemed that this problem
would be fairly easy to solve with a cherry picked patch.

But, this is not so. ipAddress and privateIpAddress were not present in
the default version of the EC2 API that txaws supported in the release
shipped in precise (EC2 API version 2008-12-01).

Passing an EC2 query object which setts the API version at 2009-11-30,
when the attributes were added, does work, but then causes failures in
other areas of txaws which had to be updated for the newer WSDL, such as
changing 'shutdownState' to 'currentState' in terminate_instances.

This is a red flag for me, and I think this has to be either be changed
to a micro release update with a ton of regression testing, or the new
version must be pushed to precise-backports, and anything (like juju)
that wants to take advantage of the new attributes needs to be careful
to only use them if they are available.

Marking the Precise SRU as Won't Fix, and opening a task against
precise-backports, as that is the more conservative approach. We may
decide to go forward with a micro release update if we can come up with
a good testing plan, but it doesn't seem likely.

Can you look into why that is?

[Bug 718188] Re: dovecot won't be restarted after failure

2012-08-09 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Matthias. We generally reserve stable release updats for
high/critical importance bugs. There is an easy workaround for this one.
If you edit /etc/init/dovecot.conf and add (on its own line) this:

respawn

That should do the trick.

[Bug 230878] Re: Apache 2 produces an OOM after 4 hours using

2012-08-10 Thread Clint Byrum
I notice that both of the reporters are using libapache-mod-php5. It
might be that this is a PHP memory leak issue and has nothing to do with
apache. OOM killed processes are often not the actual problem.

I don't see anything we can actually act on to reproduce in this bug
report. Unless a user is willing to share their PHP configs and possibly
code that reproduces the issue, I don't see how we can do anything.

Because of that, I'm going to go ahead and close this issue as Invalid.
If anyone has information suggesting that this is still a bug we can
respond to and debug in Ubuntu, please feel free to re-open it or to
open a new bug from a recent release of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1034454] Re: 12.04 Dist-upgrade breaks PHP extensions > pdo_mysql.so symbols

2012-08-10 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi, and thank you for taking the time to file such a detailed bug
report!

"PHP Installed Packages (despite php --version stating PHP version is
5.4.1)"

Your cli PHP version is different than the libapache2-mod-php5 version.
I suspect you have installed a version of php in /usr/local/bin that is
not from the repositories.

Since the setup instructions have you running commands with the PHP CLI,
this is likely to cause problems, if not confusion.

I ran through the entire install of streeme (cool app!) and it works
flawlessly with a clean brand new installed precise system.

Unless there is some step I've missed, I don't think this is an issue we
can solve in Ubuntu. Please feel free to set the bug back to 'New' if
you disagree, or open a new bug with 'ubuntu-bug php5'.

[Bug 1031568] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.3-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1. Also, the database it needed could

2012-08-10 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Matthew, thanks so much for taking the time to file a bug report.

This is a common problem, but not actually a bug I'm afraid.

Unpacking mysql-server-5.1 (from
.../mysql-server-5.1_5.1.63-0ubuntu0.11.04.1_i386.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package bacula-sd-mysql.

Because mysql-server can only be a "recommends" of bacula (since it
might live on another server and not actually be depended on), apt and
dpkg are free to configure the mysql server *after* bacula. But this
breaks the bacula installation scripts.

I would recommend that you remove bacula, and then install mysql-server,
let it fully set-up, then install bacula.

2012-08-16 Thread Clint Byrum
After discussing with yehudasa and Sage on #ceph (openprojects), I think
there is a desire to have radosgw in main. It is strategic from the
standpoint of being a backend for glance already and a good stand alone
S3 service even without keystone support.

So, now that libfcgi seems ready for main, I think we should also re-
evaluate the latest radosgw code and consider promoting it to main for
quantal.

2012-08-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Looks to be well known though unaddressed upstream yet. Since it has a
reasonably simple workaround (use the managed-keys-directory option)
I've marked it as Medium.

Hello! This is not a bug, it is actually due to your hostname containing
invalid characters. If you feel that your hostname is ok (you can find
it out by typing 'hostname' in a terminal), please feel free to paste it
into the bug report and change the status back to 'New'.

[Bug 1038414] Re: package python-appconf (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/pyshared/django_appconf-0.5.egg-info/SOURCES.txt', which is also in package python-d

2012-08-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to file this bug report.
The package 'python-appconf' does not exist in the official ubuntu
repositories. Because of this, we can't do much about files inside of it
conflicting with django. I would suggest that you remove that package,
and then install python-django-appconf again.

Public bug reported:

[Test Case]
1. install postfix

Users reporting bugs will be asked more questions, and the code behind that
has not been well tested, but its worth it to improve bug reporting.

[Bug 1017978] Re: [MIR] libfcgi, ceph (radosgw)

2012-08-22 Thread Clint Byrum
FYI, I've uploaded a new version of ceph to quantal, 0.48-1ubuntu4,
which builds radosgw and rest-bench and depends on libfcgi. It would
appear that at least for the near-term, radosgw will remain in universe.

Yehuda, the comments I see from Sage indicate that non-radosgw malloc
sites were addressed:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ceph/+bug/932898/comments/9

So perhaps there's more that can be looked at?

[Bug 1040212] [NEW] PHP CGI configuration fundamentally changed

2012-08-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

This discussion is ongoing in Debian, and the fixes have not even
landed, but I wanted to make sure this does not get forgotten.

http://lists.debian.org/debian-apache/2012/08/msg00043.html

Basically quantal has a changed mime-types package that will affect some
PHP users. The proposed release note that will be included in Debian
wheezy should probably also be quoted in Quantal's release notes.

Default PHP extension configuration
---

The mime-types package has dropped non-standard definitions of
PHP MIME-Types as a security measure. Default PHP configuration
for libapache2-mod-php5{filter} and php5-cgi now only serve files
which have .php, .php[345] and .phtml extensions on a most right
place as opposed to previous state where .php.foobar
would have been interpreted. Please read NEWS file in the PHP
SAPI of your choice for further information.

[Bug 1040586] Re: Cyrillic characters shown with wrong encoding

2012-08-24 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello!

I can confirm that some domains coming from whois.ua are shown
improperly when one's LANG is set to UTF-8.

Unfortunately, the whois protocol is a bit simplistic and does not
support any encoding specification. So one has to guess. It would appear
that the authors of whois have guessed that whois.ua will return koi8-u
encoded text. But the two domains I checked had UTF-8 encoded entries.

It would help if a native speaker would reach out to the administrators
of whois.ua and ask them if they are enforcing any one encoding on their
entries. If that turns out to be utf-8 instead of koi8-u, then we can
just change the entry in 'servers_charset_list'
