Hi All,
As you all know, for the past several years, we've been maintaining a backports
PPA for
our users to add to their systems to get updated software. This has worked well
for
several reasons.
However, the Ubuntu Backporters team has been resurrected and is very active.
To give it
a try, I backported studio-controls from Lunar to 22.04 LTS and was successful.
With that, I believe this should be the way we should backport packages in the
future, and
perhaps even sunset the backports PPA. One thing to keep in mind is that the
official
backports repository only supports LTS releases, which means we would only be
backporting only to the latest supported LTS and not the regular releases.
Another approach could be backporting via the backports repo for the LTS
releases but
keeping the backports PPA active for the regular releases, but I'd rather not
do this as it
just feels sloppy and a work-around to change process.
I'd love to hear your thoughts about this. Thanks!
