Luke,

Thank you for the kind words and I now understand the list of
dependencies should include those required for build not just to
install/run.

I assume you have seen that a MIR-bug was filed and the reply. If
not...

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libffado/+bug/416778

I do not where the discussion is to take place that is mentioned. Can
you (or someone) provide a little direction?

Also, I only listed the bugs for JACK in main on the MIR-bug. I felt
that this would be a stronger case for inclusion.

Since apparently getting JACK into main isn't immediately enough
justification, should I also mentioned "support for firewire audio
deviees" as another justificaion on the MIR-bug report?

Thanks very much for doing this Scott, much appreciated.

Overall, you did very well in filling in what you could. I have filled in the
rest of the report that you weren't sure of, and made a few changes here and
there. One thing to remember, is that when dependencies are asked for, the
dependencies of the source package is what is being asked for. This means the
source package libffado requires the list of dependencies given in that list to
build. I hope that makes sense. To get an idea of what I mean, in a terminal,
run apt-cache showsrc libffado to get a list of build dependencies.

If there is anyone else who wishes to add/ammend the report, please go ahead
and do so. If you intend to do so, please announce it on the list ASAP. If
everyone is happy with what we have there now, Scott, feel free to go ahead and
file the bug required to get the package reviewed. Don't forget to subscribe
ubuntu-mir to the bug, and feel free to subscribe ubuntustudio-dev as well, so
the whole team can track the progress of the bug.

Thanks for your great work.

Luke - libffado Main Inclusion Report

2009-08-11 Thread Scott Lavender
Luke,

Here is the Main Inclusion Report for libffado.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionReport/libffado

A few notes:

1. I have not filed a bug report and subscribed 'ubuntu-mir' to it at
this time.

2. There were numerous things that I was not definitive on, so a good
once over would be appreciated.

3. And there were things that I could not even make a reasonable guess
at this time due to my ignorance. These include:
 * Security: binaries running as root/daemons?
 * Quality Assurance: test suite in the upstream source?
 * Standards Compliance: FHS/Debian Policy?
 * Standards Compliance: Packaging system/patch system/packaging
oddities?

Please let me know if I can provide any further assistance with this
matter.

And anything that you (or anyone else) want to explain to me about this
process or any of the questions I attempted to answer would be greatly
appreciated. I wish to learn as much as I can.

Sorry Luke,

Having a bit of a go at the main inclusion report still.

With Ubuntu packages web site down I realized that I didn't have any way
to check the dependencies other than install the alpha iso which
promptly failed to install thre -rt kernel on me and borked some of my
partitions (I'll do a bug report later).

And after several hours I'm more or less where I was early this
afternoon, but I'll keep hacking at it.

And please don't misunderstand me, the dependencies are not all that's
left, I was just working my way down the list attacking things that I
felt like I could answer. To be honest, I'm rather a bit over my head
but I want to give it a good go before I start asking questions.

Luke,

I had already looked into the main inclusion report before so I should
have something for you by the end of the weekend.

That being said, I'm sure it won't be 100% complete and I'll have a list
of questions as I'm a complete newbie at this. But, hey ho, let's go.

The best way to contact me is to email me personally, or on this list, which is
what ou have done.

As for libffado, I think the only help needed is to write a main inclusion
report to get it into main. You can find the template for this report at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionReportTemplate. If you need any help with
this for libfado, let me know, and I can help fill in the blanks. I don't have
time to do this from scratch currently however.

Sorry folks, I'm gonna have to take that back. During the weekend it
seems I caught a cold and now I have a bit of fever and a sore throat.
I must get some rest, so staying up late won't just do. :)

I'll see you when I'm better, please post a (link to the) log of the
meeting, if possible, thanks!

I'll try. It's a bit late (20:00 UTC), but if kept short (no unnecessary
bafflings), it's manageable.

A calid welcome to the Ubuntu Studio team from me. Let's boost up the
project and make it go even further.

All packagers should have new tasks and responsabilities soon. Who
would attend a meeting this sunday?

Please welcome Luke Yelavich (TheMuso) as our new packaging lead.

2007-09-20 Thread Cory K.
In recent months Luke (TheMuso) has become an increasingly important
part of the team. At first it was just to help out here and there. Now
we feel he's become more than that. :)

Luis and I have chatted and we feel because of Luke's great technical
ability it would be in the best interest of the project to have Luke
hold the lead packaging spot. I know Luke can help us all to learn alot
as well as get us a little more organized.

Luis and Luke will be working out as to what things Luis would like to
retain as I feel that dumping everything on Luke would be a bit much.

So give Luke a pat on the back and let's get ready to make Hardy rock. \m/
