This requires plenty of thought, so putting time on your side would be a good thing IMO. Re: Ubuntu Studio Advertisement
Hi everyone! I'm one of the Libre Graphics people that seem to be mentioned a lot in this thread :-) We're still dealing with printing issues for issue 1.2. As it has been pointed out, the Ubuntu Studio ad would go in issue 1.3, which is now being drafted and planned. Regarding size, the dimensions are A4 with a 5mm double-page bleed. So a document with exactly 215x307mm is what we need. Regarding DPI -- 300 would be ideal, 200 is okay if you can't get to 300. Ideally, using SVG would do away with the DPI issue, but that's not the case if you plan to include bitmap images in the ad. Also, +1 regarding the idea of showcasing a new direction for Ubuntu Studio. The point about it being perceived as a mostly audio-oriented distro was true for me as well :-) This is a great opportunity to get noticed, so it's worth going through a little effort to make sure your intended message passes through. Nevertheless, in my personal experience, it's better to come up with a mock-up *quickly*, and then iron out edges from there. Finally -- we're lurking and reading, trying to figure out where we can begin work without clashing with existing aesthetic perspectives. As I mentioned to Scott, we'd probably like to start by customising the UI of Inkscape and Gimp to begin with, in order to make them look smooth inside the UbS general UI direction. The Libre Graphics advertisement is independent of the website update. The offer from the Libre Graphics folks was for the next edition which is scheduled to drop in May. I do not think we have the latitude to change this deadline without confirming with ginger, Ricardo, or Ana. I *think* Cory is suggesting that we schedule to roll the website out in time for 11.10. I had originally hoped to draw some attention to Ubuntu Studio and solicit some graphical design work flows from professional graphic artists who use open source tools with the advertisement. If we have a definitive, exciting, and revolutionary plan for the 11.10 release (XFCE, new UI, etc) we might want to see if we can hold the ad to coincide with 11.10 and create some excitement. Might I humbly suggest that the ad address the full range of Ubuntu Studio capabilities, i.e. graphic production AND video production AND audio production.
