It is pretty indeed. Can something be done about readability? Since Gutsy,
I have not been able to see the lines in the Qjacktl connect window well.
The green one is nearly invisible; I can't see what's connected to what.
That green against gray just doesn't have enough contrast. Thicker lines,
and a lighter background would help.

Also,  in Firefox, sometimes forms have black text on a black background;
impossible to read. I have to change desktop themes just to use the
browser. I have tried tweaking the theme, but haven't figured it out. I
really enjoy the look of Hardy, and Intrepid is promising, but I would
really like to be able to see what I'm doing.

different startup scripts

2008-08-20 Thread Hamish Low
Thanks Gustin,

I'm not using flgrx because it's in failsafe, flgrx only starts up if I
go into ubuntu normally.

I'll try your suggestions.

What would be the best way of enabling different startup scripts, either
for a different session or a different user so I could specify a low-CPU
2d ubuntu for when i want to make music (after selecting the rt kernel
on startup). The more automatic all this is the better.

Hamish

Simple enough!
(and all that other time wasn't "wasted", I needed the stuff anyway)
Thanks again to all.

The famous 30sec xrun logitech bug...

2008-08-20 Thread Fabien Juchniewicz
Hello,

I'm the victim of an old famous bug. Every 30 seconds, some xruns produce
noise in the recordings. Google, who is my friend, told me that my logitech
wireless mouse is guilty. And in fact, if I unplug and re-plug the mouse HF
transmitter after launching jackd, all is ok and remains ok. No xruns... If I
start another application, the 30sec xruns bug comes back...

Do you know if there's a solution to fix this bug ?

My config : Kubuntu 8.04 64 bits with KDE 4.1. My kernel is : Linux XX
2.6.24-21-rt #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Tue Aug 12 14:27:12 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Regards,

/Fabien

No xruns for me...

If you can't find the themes under 'customize', the you need to install the
desktop package.
Everything else depends on it I think, so you just wasted a bunch of time...
:-)

Here is the package description:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/ubuntustudio-desktop

so just sudo apt-get --install ubuntustudio-desktop

OK, now what?

2008-08-20 Thread michael falkenburg
Greetings!

I'm running 8.04 and "installed" via Internet using aptitude.
Used what I read NoOp suggest to another new user:

sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install ubuntustudio-audio
ubuntustudio-audio-plugins ubuntustudio-graphics ubuntustudio-video linux-rt

This resulted in many hours of "chugging".

No error messages as far as I could tell, but when I try System >
Preferences > Appearance, there is nothing listed for Studio.
Obviously, I'm "missing" something...like a Desktop choice ;-)

Help please,

mischaf

p.s. thnx-in-advance

Please make a screenshot with a second app in the taskbar, just to see
if inactive window taskbar-things and title bars are readable.
I don't like the rings for minimise/maximise/close, it looks like a bad
osx-copy (without even the colours, therefor bad, but I don't like the
osx-way either).
Else, it doesn't look bad, just wondering how it looks here, at half
(or quarter, depending on how you see it) the size of your screenshot.

programms halt computer

2008-08-20 Thread sh0099
i have the problem with ubuntu studio 8.04 with rt kernel and a
limits.conf of

@audio - rtprio 99
@audio - memlock 75
@audio - nice -10

with 1.5gb ram 1.4ghz pentium mobil

sometimes programs like ardour or on supercollider block the whole computer
so that i have any access any more and must reboot.

is there any configuration i can change to avoid this?

thanks
olaf
