Nevermind. I see you are. /This/ could very well be the cause of your
issues on -rt because of drivers. Which, we're still working on a couple
 of issues.

I'd like to ask you to run the same tests with effects off. Also, how
 much RAM do you have?

 -Cory K.

I turned Compiz off and have yet to see a freeze so far (just a short test
of audio) - that may have been the issue.
As noted previously (in my hardware specs) I have 2gig of ram.

 Hi there again,

so here we go again... What I did so far: I deinstalled everything related

 snd_ice17xx_ak4xxx 5888 1 snd_ice1712

I guess this looks rather good. But still I hear nothing. I launched a mp3
with totem (the application I use should not matter, or?) and totem plays
like hell. I tried both alsamixer and anvy24control (see attached
screenshots). In envy, I see that something is moving, but I hear nothing.
What I noticed im comparisonm to your screenshots is that you see both in
alsamixer and envy the sound device M-Audio Delta 66 whereas in my
screenshots, it says ICEnsemble ICE1712 at May this be the reason?

 Dennis

So let's begin with the details. I disabled the on-board soundcard in

  Good.

02:07.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712
  [Envy24] PCI Multi-Channel I/O Controller (rev 02)

Yes. I have exactly same line.

   $ ossinfo
   $ ossxmix
   $ osstest

I strongly believe that you really do not need these, we play with alsa
(+jackd, +pulseaudio) here, not with oss.

I use for both computers Ubuntu Studio 8.04 AMD64. You are using Ubuntu
  Studio 8.04 AMD64, right?

So I (and you) have the driver (module) on right place. No need for
  anything else.

Now you plug your monitors to the break out box - OUTS 1 and 2.

If play some mp3 files with vlc/rhythmbox/younameit, there should be

Dennis,
In your Envy24 pic you have the pcm out sliders muted. Try unmuting them and
see what happens.

This Compiz update does seem pretty flaky - I'm getting memory usage and CPU
spikes, and generally poor performance. I do wish the bling fanboys would
stop pressuring for the newest and fastest eye-candy - I had a nice system
that worked up until now :)

Call for testing, UbuntuStudio Jaunty alpha 6 and beyond.

2009-03-11 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi all
We are getting to that time, when testing for the alpha 6, beta, and final
releases is somewhat important. Having well tested disks means a good release.
I ask all of you to consider giving an hour or so to help with the testing
effort.

We are currently testing the alpha 6 release of UbuntuStudio, which is due out
in a day or so. There will then be the beta release in approximately two weeks,
then the final release in mid to late April, which all needs testing.

To get started, head over to http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com, select UbuntuStudio, and
sign up for an account. There are links there to explain what you have to do,
and the tests you have to do. If you have any questions, feel free to reply to
my mail, and one of the team will get back to you, or head onto IRC, connect to
freenode.net, and join #ubuntustudio-devel.

Again, any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Luke
