hdffxvrt and Cinelerra

2009-11-27 Thread Asmo Koskinen

I like this:

http://code.google.com/p/hdffxvrt/

Now I can use my video camcorder,

http://www.kdenlive.org/video-editor/canon-hfs100

I can use Cinelerra,

http://cinelerra.org/getting_cinelerra.php#ubuntu

http://www.arkki.info/howto/Ubuntu_Studio_Testing/Cinelerra_01.png

and I can use Blip.TV with WordPress.

*.MTS hdffxvrt *.MOV Cinelerra *.OGG Blip.TV / WordPress

My show is little headless, but yes - I think I found good tools for
my video camcorder.

http://www.arkki.info/?p=23

If you have AVHDC camcorder, try hdffxvrt and Cinelerra combination - it
does not hurt ;-)

Best Regards Asmo Koskinen.

DVD problems

2009-11-27 Thread Tom Rausner
Hi Guys

I have a problem and I guess I'm not the only one having it.
I have a couple of DVDs I want to play on my laptop, but they are
coded to run only on a DVD player. What do I do to get them
running on the laptop ? ... anyone ?

Some kind of special encoding that would keep it from working on, say, a
Windows PC? So it will only play in DVD players?

Never heard of it...

I recall that I had to set my computer's region code before some DVDs would
play. Here's how:

Hope that helps.

My first thought is: you're outta luck.

On second thought, there is probably a way to do this. But it almost def is
illegal, so you may not get any help here... ;-)

Re: Hello, this is Linus Torvalds, and I pronounce Linux as Linux!

2009-11-27 Thread Farrell J. McGovern
Robert Klaar wrote:
Why?... as opposed to Gnu/Linux? :/
Hi. My name is Farrell McGovern, and I am willing to bet that I have
been using Linux longer than almost anyone here. I started with kernel
version 0.12 back in 1992 or so...and thus probably predate you

The reason why this recording was done was because there was a debate in
the Usenet Newsgroups on how to pronounce the name Linux. So, Linus,
in his youthful wisdom recorded himself, both in English and Finnish,
with the correct pronunciation of Linux, and, inadvertently but
fortuitously, his name. I believe that the Google Usenet archive has
the discussion, if you want to look it up.

asmo.koski...@arkki.info kirjoitti:

 sudo chmod 777 /dev/raw1394

There is more correct way to do that in Karmic.

1. Before.

as...@ubuntu-studio:~$ ls -al /dev/raw1394
crw-rw 1 root root 171, 0 2009-11-28 08:53 /dev/raw1394

2. Add new file with this line in correct directory.

as...@ubuntu-studio:~$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/50-raw-firewire.rules
KERNEL==raw1394, NAME=raw1394, GROUP=audio

3. After REBOOT.

as...@ubuntu-studio:~$ ls -al /dev/raw1394
crw-rw 1 root audio 171, 0 2009-11-28 09:30 /dev/raw1394
