Hi Set,

at least kdesu can be configured to use sudo instead of su and IIUC
what man gksu mentions, then by gconf the same can be done for gksu.

$ cat .jwmrc-jwmpanel | less

I commented lxpolkit out. On my machine everything needed to use gksudo
is running anyway, but for usage of pkexec there seems to be the need to
start an additional authentication agent.

Ralf

Thank you Ralf!
I thought gksu was the same as gksudo... none of them seem to be
installed. But yes, gparted starts and ask me for the root pass, in a
way i would identify as gksudo does, minus the greyed-out background...
but after checking it seems i have pkexec installed. so i'm guessing the
ubuntustudio-controls haven't been adjusted to the change?

Nowadays it's more common to use "pkexec" instead of "gksu{do}". I
still prefer using "gksudo". Anyway, distros that by default come
without a root account should prefer "gksudo" over "gksu". Likely
somebody planed to switch to "pkexec" for the menu entry and has
forgotten to do it. Is gpared in the menu? If so, what happens if you
start gparted? Watching the menu entries with Alacarte or another menu
editor might be interesting. Is "gksu" used for all entries, that need
root privileges?

[ubuntu-studio-users] Ubuntustudio-controls won't start

2015-03-16 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi,

I tried to run the ubuntustudio-controls today on my 14.04 box, and got
the following error message:

> Failed to execute command "gksu ubuntustudio-controls".
> Failed to execute child process "gksu" (No such file or directory)

While I'm unsure what the ubuntustudio-controls are actually doing and
aware how easy it is to install gksu, i wonder if it should be this way?

Yours respectfully,
