Yes, I noticed that you can load individual images on each monitor, but
I didn't want that. With wide graphics made for multiple monitors
already on my hard drive, that is still a big let-down. KDE was not the
desktop supported by the last LTS of ubuntu studio, since it worked
before my upgrade. If I recall I was using xfce, which had the support.
Both monitors are identical LG monitors; both identified as model
16843009 by the KDE display configuration settings.
On another mailing list, someone suggested this 3rd party executable,
which is not the most perfect solution, but it does the job:

For Ubuntu, a superpaper binary which they called an "AppImage" format
was on offer, and I downloaded it. It is a zero-installation solution,
allowing me to chmod and execute the binary in-place and try it out.
The GUI responded in a funny way to me: things which acted like buttons
didn't look like buttons (in fact checkbox and textbox widgets appeared
missing, but would do the expected thing if you clicked), but I
eventually figured things out, and it is doing its job. But once you
close the GUI, the program stays in memory on the command line. And it
is there I found a flurry of warnings from GLib and GTK. Pressing
Control+C to return to the command line resulted in the image still
residing in memory.
Obviously, I will need to view the docs in more detail.
I suppose if I want things like the GUI to work properly, I should
download the source code, which is on offer where I downloaded the
AppImage.
