i actually had a problem like similar and i had the medibuntu repos, i
think it's ffmpeg or avconv related. to test my dvd's before burning,
i mount the iso and use mplayer. i think the fix was to uninstall and
compile ffmpeg from source. i haven't made a dvd in a while though.

thanks for trying out linux, i'm not sure of your urgency (perhaps a
mac would be a better fit for you, web cams are easier to use than
windows).

if you ever would like to try again at a later time, please include
the make/model of the computer and webcam (there maybe specific
drivers involved).

something that always trips me up if this is on a laptop, there might
be a button to turn on the webcam. I have wasted a lot of time hunting
down wireless issues when all i needed to do was turn it on lol.

Re: *Official Announcement:* Ubuntu Studio is switching to XFCE.

2011-05-15 Thread Adam Behnke
The application menu drop down list is very similar to xubuntu's. I don't
mind xubuntu anyway, i've used it on a laptop before and it's not going to
be a drastic change from 10.04 UI imo lol

Re: install 11.04 on desktop

2011-05-03 Thread Adam Behnke
I found running the install disc to install pretty easy overall, not very
tricky at all. If you find you're missing some codes, checkout medibuntu.org,
but 99% of what you need is in "ubuntu restricted others" in synaptic
package manager. If you have a more specific question like dual booting, I
can help you further.
