Teza,

I have "successfully" used the Fast Track Pro usb card on Ubuntu Studio
8.04.2. I am not a proficient user of Linux, just playing with it as a
hobby. There are a couple programs that I won't do without and which I
haven't been able to run satisfactorily on wine. Plus, I found a really
nice DAW for windows that only cost about $70 (us) that does just about
everything I need.

That being said, I was able to get the Fast Track Pro up and running on
Linux on a Gateway laptop with reasonable latency. I believe current
versions of the card are class compliant and it is recognized by your system
so it should run on Linux. I had difficulty getting it working which I
attributed to my lack of knowledge of Linux and the various programs
available. But, I was able to use it to play back system sounds and YouTube
audio. In addition, I was able to set up jack and do some recording and
playback with Ardor, Hyrogen, and one of the syth programs.

Anyway, I would be willing to try to help you get the card to work, but it
may take me a couple of days to put together what I did to get it working.
I can at least probably point you to websites that I found helpful in
getting it to work.

Tom,

Thanks for pointing out the LAU list. I will definitely check it out.

M-audio Fast Track Pro and Ubuntu Studio

2008-12-02 Thread Daniel Nordlund
Ubuntu Studio Users,

I am having difficulty getting my system properly configured with JACK and
Ardour so that I can record and play back from Ardour using my Fast Track Pro
(FTP). The FTP is set as the default card and plays system sounds on booting,
and I can also play audio from the internet (e.g. you tube).

Through trial and error, I have been able to record audio through the FTP, and
I have been able to play back recorded audio through the FTP. However, I don't
seem to be able to find settings that allow me to do both, i.e., record audio
input and then turn around and play it back whithout changing any settings.
Can anyone point me to links that give a detailed description of setting up the
FTP with Jack and Ardour, including which connections need to exist in JACK and
Ardour? I have found a number of discussions online that talk about
successfully using the FTP, but no detailed discussion of how it was done
(sometimes because for the poster it apparently just worked out of the box).

I have successfully used the FTP in Windows (XP and Vista) with an inexpensive
DAW called Mixcraft and with Ableton Live. I am trying to move to Ubuntu
Studio with only partial success. Any links or discussion here would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan
