Re: [ubuntu-studio-users] ubuntu-studio-users Digest, Vol 188, Issue 3

2023-04-14 Thread Doc C
I have the same reaction.

KDE is pretty and all, but one (really annoying!!) bug on my AMD
Ryzen7/Radeon based desktop is the splash screen gets "stuck" and won't let
me get to my desktop. This happens about half the time when I reboot,
anecdotally.

Sometimes the window manager just becomes unresponsive (seems to be related
to the Slack desktop app in my case) and integration with LibreOffice is
not great.

Anyway, sorry to gripe but I too miss Xfce for UbuntuStudio. I understand
there are advantages and there is much more active development of KDE but I
spend a lot of time shutting off all the fancy stuff in KDE so it doesn't
annoy me.

Thanks for listening. ;-)

Chris

[ubuntu-studio-users] Issues w/ThinkPad T14 AMD (Gen2)

2021-12-05 Thread Doc C
Greetings Fellow Ubuntu-studio fans.

I just got a ThinkPad T14 (Gen 2) and have had nothing but problems trying
to install 21.10.
I finally gave up installing from the ubuntstudio 21.10 image and chose to
install Kubuntu 2.10 and then use Ubuntu Studio Installer.

I've been waiting about an hour for the installer to finish with:
"Building initial module for 5.13.0-22-generic"

Any idea how long this would normally take on a Ryzen 7 at 1.90 Gigahertz?
It seems like it's stuck but I don't want to kill it prematurely.

Best,

Chris

[ubuntu-studio-users] 20.10, KDE Plasma, and different desktops

2020-12-06 Thread Doc C
Greetings Ubuntu Studio friends!

I'm testing 20.10 in Virtualbox and I'm trying to figure out how to get
different plain colors for each of my virtual desktops (very easy to do in
XFCE).

Anybody have an idea of how to do that within KDE Plasma? When I call up
the desktop settings, it lets me change to a plain color but then ALL of my
virtual desktops have the SAME plain color.

I like to color code my workspaces (web browsing with a blue background,
music prod with a green background, graphics work with a dark grey
background, etc.) but I haven't found out how to do this in KDE.

Best,
Chris

Re: [ubuntu-studio-users] ubuntu-studio-users Digest, Vol 158, Issue 8

2020-06-25 Thread Doc C
Hmm, one thing that I really like is the ability to right click on the
desktop and get to my "Applications" sub-menu. I downloaded Kubuntu and
fired it up in virtualbox and it does NOT have the applications menu
available from a right click on the desktop.

Does anybody know how easy this would be to "fix" and can we make sure that
feature is available in Ubuntu Studio as that transition occurs? Please?

Best,
Chris

[ubuntu-studio-users] Thanks and some encouragement

2019-05-25 Thread Doc C
Greetings Ubuntu Studio team!

I have been using Ubuntu Studio for many years and love it. I just
installed the 19.04 release and think the default theme and look are
gorgeous and functional. Thanks so much for the update! I'm now installing
it over my machines that have been running 16.04 and those I have recently
upgraded to 18.04.

I realize that the development team is small and wish I had the time to
help out. Naturally, I can "throw money" at the problem but realize that
doesn't, necessarily, solve development problems. This prompts the
following question:

What can your loyal users do to help Ubuntu Studio avoid the fate of so
many distros that have shuttered??
I can post teasers about Ubuntu Studio on my twitter feed or post articles
about it on my Facebook page but I'd would appreciate input from the dev
team about what would be the most useful form of support for someone who
doesn't have time to wade through the buglist and code.
What do YOU want us to do to help your efforts?

I am a scientist who is also a creator (music, photography, and digital
painting) and the default Ubuntu Studio install has about 80% of the tools
I need to do my job and explore my hobbies right out of the box. This saves
me SO much time and I truly appreciate that!

All my best,

Chris
