Generally its considered good practice to give how you solved the
issue, so that we can all learn and reuse the answer if need be.
Please do share what you did to make it work.

Ubuntu Studio is a part of Ubuntu, using the same repositories and
packages. Therefore, any bugs in Ubuntu Studio also apply to ubuntu.
This means we use the same tracker as ubuntu.

Re: Alessio's repository

2010-06-24 Thread Jussi Schultink
Alessio,

Perhaps it might be wise to have a second PPA - (you can do it on LP
easily) - one for the bleeding edge stuff, that you make your changes
in and one for the somewhat stable but newer than in ubuntu stuff, so
people can use your packages a bit more.

Fwd: Low latency kernel in Lucid

2010-02-04 Thread Jussi Schultink
-- Forwarded message --
From: Jussi Schultink
Date: Thu, Feb 4, 2010 at 12:33 PM
Subject: Low latency kernel in Lucid
To: UbuntuStudio Mailing List , Ubuntu
Studio Development & Technical Discussion <
ubuntu-studio-de...@lists.ubuntu.com>

Hi all, I received the following from Alessio regarding the Low latency
kernel. Please test and write to the kernel team so we can have this in
lucid and make ubuntu studio better!

-
I would like to remind you how large the advantages are to have a
-lowlatency kernel flavour.

Providing a lowlatency kernel allows us to have a kernel that is _very_
stable (like -generic because it is the same code without modifications and
only with a different configuration) but with very good performance
out of the box.
Moreover, to have it in the form of a kernel flavour means that it keeps up to
date with the -generic kernel without our intervention.
In this way we can avoid recomending kernel-rt to most of our users thus
avoid
it's bugs and its continual trailing version of the generic kernel.

What you can do for help?

1) Test the kernel ( http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~abogani/ ) and write an email
to kernel-t...@lists.ubuntu.com
with your comments (I hope that they are enthusiastic) (the packages will
work on both karmic and lucid, however closed source graphics drivers will
not be available)
2) Write to email to the above requesting this kernel flavour
3) Write directly to Tim Gardner endorsing it

In short we could also use it as default kernel!

P.s.

I have a small issue with it. Sending a lot of mails replying to yourself is
rather rude, especially when the mails are largely offtopic. Please attempt
to stay on topic and follow the mailing list ettiquette - you can find it
here http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists/etiquette

Hope that helps explain it. And please, feel very free to visit the

The position being advertised is for an art lead on a _development_ project.
This is not just a call for artwork etc, we have done that in the past and
there is a place for submission on the wiki. We are looking for someone to
coordinate and define the direction of the art, as well as make sure it is
implemented in ubuntu studio. So while I appreciate that for users this
stuff is not really suitable, for a member of a development team it is.

Yep exactly. but it still takes people with knowledge to make it that way.

GTK themes are already done with archive files (.tar.gz). However this is
more than just a theme, it is making sure that everything withing the theme
works, the look and feel of the desktop, and much more, as mentioned in the
above emails. Once again this is not just about users submitting themes, it
is about an Art lead position in a development team.

Also, bzr is not actually that hard to use, it takes less than an hour to
learn competently (and I am not a coder before you jump on that). If you
would just like to peruse the code, you can look at the files section, as
linked from the pages corey gave:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-dev/ubuntustudio-look/UbuntuStudio/files

I have a good connection, However, I understand that many people have
limited or no connection on their studio machines, which in my mind is
more than enough reason to include it on the dvd. As has already been

What is Ubuntu Studio

2007-12-31 Thread Jussi Schultink
Hi Tom,

Ubuntu studio is a collection of packages from the Ubuntu
repositories, plus a few small configuration changes and a theme. I
removes much of the installing needed and does not install a lot of
the non studio cruft. However, you can get a similar effect with your
vanilla gutsy install by following the instructions here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/Installation

Hope this helps

Documentation

2007-12-31 Thread Jussi Schultink
Hello All.

As has been discussed before, there is a lack of documentation for
Studio work on Ubuntu.
What does this have to do with me, I hear you say?

YOU can help with this. Do you have a favourite guide for an
application? Can you write a good how to?

Then please do head over to the wiki
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio) and write a "How to"
or just link to existing documentation in the "Upstream Links"
section.

Feel free to add to any of the sections in the community documentation
section - it is a wiki after all :D

I look forward to seeing your contributions.

Gabriel,

As mentioned in another thread, rosegarden 1.6.1 fixes the problems.
So just tell him to include that.

Hi there!

As the help link says, you need to install an irc client - there is a
list there. Install one and then connect to Freenode through it.

Thanks for trying out Ubuntu Studio, we really hope you like it. IIRC,

Re: Kubuntu 7.04 update to Ubuntustudio

2007-10-09 Thread Jussi Schultink
Hello!

Thanks a lot for looking at ubuntustudio. You can install the meta
packages and all of the programs will install fine. however of course
no theming or ubuntustudio look will happen. The kernels are installed
in parallel - so at the grub menu screen you will be able to choose
either. Also, you need to realise that most of the apps are coded in
gtk - so you will need to install a whole lot of libs.

Hope this helps.
