Re: Jack and SB-awe soundcard

2008-03-15 Thread Ray Edester
I have used Creative's Sound Blaster cards for as long as I've had a PC
and never a problem. DOS, Winsloth and several distros of Linux.

The price is right here. (I have no association with the vendor)

OK. Did that. 'Only effect seems to be I lost my shortcuts on
the "Kicker" line. I could replace all but Kmail as it must not be
a "stock" item of gnome. I mv'd them back to originals as they didn't
seem to do anything for me.

I got back in Kmail here from a terminal..

No .gtkrc to be found...

Re: Need Help.. BAD!

2008-01-27 Thread Ray Edester
Hi Robin,

I have replaced the nVidia card setting in xorg.conf with the proper one
that worked with 6.06. But no luck.

I "Slocated" for .gnome2 and had so many that I'm reluctant at this time in
removing it from /home/ray/.gnome2 until I can know more about it.

It has many sub-dirs as "/home/ray/.gnome2/ " as well.
I am ignorant as to its usage and fear to render myself unable to enter the
OS at all...

/home/ray/.gtkrc-1.2-gnome2

Is there as well. Same caveats apply...

?

Ray

Hi Michael,

You've got it!

I'm trying to figger how to run the CD as "Live" and do as he suggested,
saving the xorg.conf file and replacing in the resident OS.

Guess a trip into Winsloth is my next move???

Thanks for that and please "stay tuned", as they say. :-)

Help for upgrade from 6.06 LTS to 7.1 gutsy

2008-01-26 Thread Ray Edester
I don't know if this is the proper forum... But,

I have upgraded my Ubuntu 6.06 LTS to Studio 7.1 using a CD brought to me
by a friend.

I ran the validity test on the CD and it passed.

ALL works very well except;

ALL GUI screens/sub-screens have TEXT shown only as clear blocks.  ie; 3x6
(5x9?) pixelations(?)  In Icon names and Kicker Line. This, of course,
renders the desktop all but unusable.

During boot, I see a line;

"Could not init
/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/Truetype"

Yet, when I enter the following from a terminal, it appears valid with many
entries displayed...

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType#

The SET command shows the path as;

PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin

I would certainly hate to have to reinstall 6.06 and lose a lot of work put
into the OS over the year(s)

If anyone has some ideas I could surely use them as this has gone on for
nearly a week and I have gotten nowhere, so far.

Tks,

Ray
