JFTR you can login as user by TTY, but you can't login as user by the display manager's greeter? If so, it might be related to a wrong keyboard layout (OTHO usually TTY is affected to). Edit a new or add to an existing /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/keyboard.conf the lines that fit to your keyboard layout, for Germans e.g. Section InputClass Identifier keyboard MatchIsKeyboard yes Option XkbLayout de #Option XkbVariant nodeadkeys EndSection resp. for testing purpose only use chars for your password that are equal on all keyboards. -- ubuntu-studio-users mailing list ubuntu-studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users

Typically I just rename ~/.config and test. I think step one for you is to identify your problem for what it is, which is likely a bad config due to running so many different interfaces and likely with ppa's added. If you would like to discuss how to do that properly let a volunteer know. Cheers and good luck. cos I can log in after ctrl alt f2. HI, I've had this issue as well, quite a while ago. The only solution was to change to another desktop manager: sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm (if you have lightdm installed of course.) and even after switching back: sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm the problem was still solved. It was that the block file of Xorg for some reason wasn't working properly. Try renaming ~/.Xauthority (/home/user/.Xauthority) to anything else and then logging as usual.
