Regards, Michael Hello Michael, I have nit followed the whole thread, so sorry if I misunderstood something... Jack is indeed something like a universal patchbay in Linux-audiosystems: According to Your screenshot it seems that You have NOT connected the Inputs and outputs. There should be lines between capture_x on the left- and ardour_input on the right side as well as ardour_master or Ardour_bus -or whatever You want to use as output- on the left to playback_y on the right, indicating that they are connected. You have to connect a virtual mixer and recording machine as well as their hardware equivalents! Re: Recording with M-Audio Delta 66
I own only passive pickups guitars (Fender, Gibson, S.D. Curlee Manne, the last being passive but with a relatively high output) and a DI/Preamp is a must. I can hear some signal, but the signal/noise ratio is devastating... About the ultragain, you can read on the behringer site: Ensures outstanding signal transparency when used as a high-end DI-box. From what I read on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DI_unit) the MIC200 falls in the 'active DI boxes' category. But, I'm not a recording expert, I just collect guitars ;) Sergio On Sun, 2009-09-20 at 21:07 +0200, Michael Neumeier wrote: Hello all, Well, I used the Yamaha John Myung signature 6 string which is active. Sergio The MIC200 is not a DI, it seems to be just a regular pre-amp. But you're right, you'll need some sort of gain before you record, which is usually done by using a pre-amp. I do not think that a standard DI adjusts the gain so much as matches impedance, although some fancier boxes will allow you to boost the gain. -- -Brian David -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list Ubuntu-Studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list Ubuntu-Studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users

I know that I have to use Jack and this is running, but to tell the truth: I cannot really see the point in how to connect the signal to a track in Ardour. I created a track in Ardour called Bass, but no matter what I connected, I could not even get a in signal in the mixer of Ardour - so the next steps would be: 1. Get the signal into the Bass track of Ardour 2. Connect the Outputs of the Bass track of Ardour to the Output 1 of the Break-Out-Box. You want to open qjackctl and click on 'connections' Then you need to make sure you have the following (select one from the left and one from the right and then 'connect' or 'disconnect' to get it right) Delta66 Input 2 (check name) Ardour Track1 In (Bass) Ardour Track1 Out (Bass) Aurdour Master In Ardour Master Out - Delta66 Output1 You could as you stated connect the output of the track straight to the sound card output, but if you end up multi-tracking then you will benefit from having a mixed output you can control from ardour's mixer and automation. Also, If you have multiple sound cards active in your setup, make sure that jack is using the correct sound cards for its inputs and outputs. -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list Ubuntu-Studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users

I was actually looking at this page when I checked it out: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-MIC200-Tube-Ultra-Gain-Preamp?sku=182491src=3WWRWXGBZYXSEM=0 Which expressly has the word 'Pre-Amp' in the title of the item. But it does seem to be built more like a DI, now that I look through the features, so there you go. :) -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list Ubuntu-Studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users

Just an aside note: shouldn't you use a DI box to connect your bass to the M-Audio? I used a behringher Tube Ultragain MIC200 low cost DI box (now I jump in my M-Audio 1010 through a line6 X3 Pro). Otherwise your signal could be really low. Sergio On Sun, 2009-09-20 at 14:12 +0300, asmo.koski...@arkki.info wrote: Can anybody please help me? Thanks.
