Therefore, while I think maintaining the operating system on a flash drive wouldn't be bad (or might have speed benefits of booting and loading applications for SSD drives), I wouldn't recommend them for storing audio data, say from recording in Ardour. If it is a typical cheapo-stick it will most likely fail to deliver data fast enough to run Ardour and other bandwith-intense applications such as some types of samplers.
