I Use a Roland as well. Needed to get some drivers and write a script to
load at boot. But works great.

  Hi,

I'm sick of waiting for Presonus to getting around to
  supporting FFADO
(I bought a Firebox - at the moment an expensive
  paperweight).
Could some please recommend a USB-bus powered audio
  (audio/midi)
interface that works flawlessly with Ubuntu Studio?

  Thanks

I'm happy with my Roland Edirol UA-25EX. I'm interested in both MIDI and
audio. In Ubuntu Studio 8.04 there was a patch for the kernel, but
fortunately this is not necessary in US 9.04. Almost everything explained
for Edirol UA-25 could be applied for Edirol UA-25EX. Read ALSA wiki pages.
Is necessary to tweak .soundrc file if you use just one mic to record an
 audio file.

What's wrong with your firebox? my presonus firepod works great (could even
say flawlessly, if you don't count the brief setup required), the firebox
should be the same chip and have the same results. What message do you get
when you try to run jack with ffado? Oh, and you are running Jaunty right?
And have you opened Ubuntu Studio Controls and checked the 'enable raw1394'
checkmark box? If you're on an earler Ubuntu Studio version, maybe you
should just used freebob, that worked fine with presonus cards too and it
saves you the troubles of attempting to compile things yourself. The only
reason why it's not officially supported is because Presonus has not donated
a card to the FFADO developers, everything works great.

Can you post the output of these two commands:
grep -H -n raw1394 /etc/udev/rules.d/*
grep -H -n raw1394 /lib/udev/rules.d/*

Sorry, I have Zoom H2 just as a usb mic. Alsa says:

All USB devices that are standards compliant will work. If they do not
please report to the mailing lists. If your USB device is not on this
list yet, here are some generic install instructions.

Hope you find working one.

Best Regards Asmo Koskinen.

Hi. If you JUST want VERY cheap good sound right now, and no extras, the better
is the iMic. Don't bother with the Buddy, etc.

You can't get the firebox to work? Mine works perfectly, I can even chain up
multiple ones simultaneously (something the presonus drivers can't even do).
I use the freebob driver in UBS 8.04, haven't gotten around to trying in
9.04 yet. Make sure you've got the right FW permissions, so if it doesn't
work try

sudo chmod o+rw /dev/raw1394

I think that should work. The Ubuntu Studio Controls thing never worked
for me in 8.04, but there is another way to make it permanent (with this
command you have to use it every time you start up). I can't remember off
the top of my head but it's not hard to find.

Good Luck!
