Bug description:
  There's a longstanding issue (see the duplicate bug #555641) with
  Compiz and multi-monitor setups with any combined dimension larger
  than the maximum GL texture size. It used to be the case that this
  would simply crash compiz, but mesa now has code to fallback to
  software rendering for those cases. Unfortunately, this rendering is
  unacceptably slow (on the order of 10s of seconds per frame),
  particularly since the only hardware that will realistically hit this
  limit is netbook hardware with the associated anaemic CPU. It also
  appears to be broken in some cases (see bug #830949), although I can't
  reproduce that myself.

  The Compiz "Copy to Texture" plugin can break textures up into <= max
  texture size chunks, allowing hardware rendering to work with these
  large framebuffers. This is insufficient for Unity, though, which
  also needs a way to break up its FBOs.

  For Oneiric we should patch g-s-d's xrandr plugin to disallow setting
  a multi-monitor configuration with any dimension >= max texture size
  when Unity is running. Additionally, the display capplet should not
  allow a resolution to be explicitly set that will break Unity. For P
  this should be dropped in favour of enabling Compiz's "Copy to
  Texture" plugin and fixing Unity.

  String Freeze Exception Request:
  This patch adds a new failure mode and explanatory error message to
gnome-desktop's randr handling. This new message is required to explain to the
user why their multi-head setup request has been rejected, and what can be done
about it.

  Original report:
  THIS IS A MASTER BUG OF FOUR DIFFERENT BUGS:

  Oneiric Alpha 3 installed on this system. Under testing, one test is
  to plug in an external monitor and ensure that external video
  functions properly. On this EeePC, it does not. (See photo attached
  to this bug).

  Once the external montior is plugged in, both the primary display and
  the external display are horribly garbled. The only thing that exists
  on the screen that's remotely readable is the panel at the top. The
  rest of the desktop area is just a mess.

  It seems that the width of the "Our star apps" text in the header of

  making any longer strings "overflow" and be written over the tagline.

  It would be great to either not limit the width (or limit it to a

  the heading. If that's not possible, at least a translator comment in
  the string specifying the max. width would be really useful as a
  temporary workaround.

  In any case, I expect this to affect many languages, as translations
  cannot often be as short as the original English strings.

  Thanks.

  Some of the categories shown on the initial Software Center screen

  * Accessories
  * Education
  * Games
  * Graphics
  * Office
  * Sound & Video
  * Universal Access

  I think it's possible that none of them are loading translations, and
  that the ones appearing translated are just been loaded from somewhere
  else in the .mo file. One other thing I've noticed is that all of
  these strings are in the template and are translated, except for
  "Sound & Video", which doesn't appear in the template and is thus not
  exposed in Launchpad for translation.

  These are very visible strings, and it would be great if their
  translations could be loaded.

Thanks David! This should be fixed in the current version in oneiric. I
attach a screenshot of the ca version.

I'm not quite sure I see the issue with the "hu" screenshot, could you
help me?

  It seems that the width of the "Our star apps" text in the header of

  making any longer strings "overflow" and be written over the tagline.

  It would be great to either not limit the width (or limit it to a

  the heading. If that's not possible, at least a translator comment in
  the string specifying the max. width would be really useful as a
  temporary workaround.

  In any case, I expect this to affect many languages, as translations
  cannot often be as short as the original English strings.

  Thanks.

Michael: the Hungarian screenshot shows the untranslated category names
on the left and under the suggested applications, that is filed as bug
#868963. Also the untranslated More button on the right, which is bug
#868952. But the heading is OK, there is nothing to do with that.

  Reproduced it on both a Catalan and Hungarian locale.

  Some of the categories shown on the initial Software Center screen
  appear untranslated. They are:

  * Accessories
  * Education
  * Games
  * Graphics
  * Office
  * Sound & Video
  * Universal Access

This new message is required to explain to the
user why their multi-head setup request has been rejected, and what can be done
about it.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 867885] Re: ibus character selection window not drawn

2011-10-06 Thread Brandon Schaefer
The problem is located in "preedit_cursor_" and how nux uses it. There
are also a few other things nux has for dealing with preedit which seems
to be in the right direction. Such as "_preedit" which nux uses to store
the preedit text in, also an attribute variable for the function
"gtk_im_context_get_preedit_string ()".  Hopefully I'll fix this soon!

  )

  The iBus integration is still an issue.

  Test environment:
  Unity: 4.20.0-0ubuntu2
  iBus: 1.3.99.20110419-1ubuntu3
  ibus-pinyin: 1.3.99.20110706-1

  Test steps:
  1. Click dash icon
  2. CTL-space to switch to pinyin IM
  3. Type "zhong" in search menu

  Expected to see a character selection window, but the selection window
  disappeared.

  4. continue to test. press"back space", the character selection window
  appeared. press "back space" one more time, the character selection
  window disappeared again.
