[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 835304] Re: contained fontconfig setting files force to make it default font

2011-10-14 Thread Jinkyu Yi
Scott Moser,

Thank you for report it to upstream.
But in my opinion, this can be not bug to debian.
Ubuntu use language-selector and it link fontconfig files - not in debian - to
set default font.
The problem is these settings are duplicate to fontconfig files
language-selector use.
It looks like this is bug to ubntu, but just workaround at debian.
How about modify ttf-nanum for only in ubuntu and wait for upstream fontconfig
settings ready in debian?
I think there's no needed to patch ttf-nanum in debian for now.

After I create a bzr branch and commit, I can't find any link for "propose for
merging" at lp:ubuntu/ttf-nanum page and that's why I only attach debdiff file.
I am wondering some packages need higher permission for proposing.

Title:
No translated package descriptions for -updates repository

Status in Ubuntu Translations:
  Triaged
Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: apt

Package descriptions for packages in the -updates repository always
appear in English to the user in software-center or synaptic. It would
be more accessible to show translated descriptions which are available
in the users own language in this case.

  Example:
  $ LANG=C apt-cache policy gcalctool
  gcalctool:
Installed: 5.32.0-0ubuntu4
Candidate: 5.32.0-0ubuntu4
Version table:
   *** 5.32.0-0ubuntu4 0
  500 http://be.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/main i386
Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
   5.32.0-0ubuntu1 0
  500 http://be.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages

  $ apt-cache show gcalctool
Above command returns English package descriptions for both versions while my
locale is set to Dutch (nl) and the file
/var/lib/apt/lists/be.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_maverick_main_i18n_Translation-nl
 is available.

I would have expected a Dutch package description for the ubuntu1
package and an English package description for the ubuntu4 package in
  -updates.

The archive should have a i18n directory for the maverick-updates
repository or apt should be adapted to use the translations from the
release repository (maverick) so translated package descriptions are
displayed for updates too in software-center, synaptic, ...

A symlink in the archive from maverick/i18n to the maverick-updates/i18n
could be sufficient since the package descriptions remain the same and the
Translation files provide the md5 checksum of the english descriptions to match
with as described here:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2002/10/msg4.html
  I tested by copying
/var/lib/apt/lists/be.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_maverick_main_i18n_Translation-nl
 to
/var/lib/apt/lists/be.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_maverick-updates_main_i18n_Translation-nl
and then translated package descriptions are displayed.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 835304] Re: contained fontconfig setting files force to make it default font

2011-10-14 Thread Scott Moser
Jinkyu Yi,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and submit a fix.
I've taken the liberty to report the bug to debian and attach your proposed
fix at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=645354 . I suggest at
this point that we see if the debian maintainer is willing to fix or comment on
it, and then we go from there.

Also, for future reference, I notice that you've created a bzr branch
that fixes this bug, but you neglected to "propose for merging" into
lp:ubuntu/ttf-nanum . Your debdiff is sufficient, but the merge
proposal is an easier work flow for many developers.

  Thanks again for your work.

Re: [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Fwd: Draft of the language pack release schedule for Oneiric for review

2011-10-14 Thread Milo Casagrande
Hello everybody,

I read carefully the proposed schedule, and to me it looks OK.

If we can also plan two full langpacks, I would suggest to use the
third and fifth, or fourth and sixth uploads, in order now to provide
extensively time for translators to update documentation translations.
The third langpack is in January, and as David said is within the
Canonical Engineering Rally... I do not know if maybe that one would
be better to be a delta langpack.

Thanks Kenneth for the hard work!

Ciao.

Thanks a lot Kenneth for working on this.

I agree. I think for starters the first language pack in the cycle will
have to be full anyway, as due to langpack-o-matic not supporting
mallard before release (which Martin quickly fixed) meant that some
documentation translations, such as deja-dup's, were not included in the
language packs.

It looks good to me. The January language pack update falls right in the
middle of the Canonical Ubuntu Engineering Rally (9th-13th Jan), but I
think if it's a delta language pack update, it shouldn't be too much of
a problem.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Fwd: Draft of the language pack release schedule for Oneiric for review

2011-10-14 Thread Kenneth Nielsen

Hallo Guys

First of I realised that I forgot to include Martin Pitt as a recipient
on the first email, sorry.

Second, after a discussion yesterday with Kelemen Gabor we talked about
that it would be nice if we could also _plan_ to make one or two of the
planned language pack updates "full", in the sense that they should also
include documentation. We need to coordinate something about the build
of these and the testing, but that is in the details. Right now I think
we should discuss where such full updates would be best placed in the
schedule. Therefore I have also included Matthew East whom I hope will
have some input in this.

Regards Kenneth

PS: Please include everyone in the replies.

=== ORIGINAL EMAIL ===

Hallo

I created a draft for the language pack release schedule for Oneiric[1].

One thing to note is that the testing period for the first lang pack
cycle is 2 weeks, even though we have a agreed that one week is
sufficient. This is done to work aroung the UDS (which was one of the
problems with the last schedule). I didn't think it was realistic to
squeze it in before (there is also a open week and whatnot) and no-one
is able to do anything during, so I though we might as well use the time
during the UDS for translator testing.

Let me know what you think about the whole thing and whether you can
spot any potential problems.

Regards Kenneth

Bug description:
   SRU Testing

  - Enable IBus input method
  - Installed unity 4.24.0 from oneiric-proposed (when it's available)
  - Restart your session (logout/login)
  - Open Dash by clicking on the Ubuntu icon in the launcher, make sure search
entry is focused
  - Type + to switch to pinyin input method
  - Type "zhong" in the search entry
  - Make sure the character selection window remains open when pressing
(and generally remains open for selection when it should).

The iBus integration is still an issue.

  Test environment:
  Unity: 4.20.0-0ubuntu2
  iBus: 1.3.99.20110419-1ubuntu3
  ibus-pinyin: 1.3.99.20110706-1

  Test steps:
  1. Click dash icon
  2. CTL-space to switch to pinyin IM
  3. Type "zhong" in search menu

Expected to see a character selection window, but the selection window
  disappeared.

  4. continue to test. press"back space", the character selection window
appeared. press "back space" one more time, the character selection
  window disappeared again.
