[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 814822] Re: "Ubuntu Desktop Guide" message is not translated

2011-10-27 Thread Matthew East
Chatting this through with Gabor on irc, we have found that the current
ubuntu-docs pot file has the relevant string, and it is working in (for
example) the sl translation. Most other languages have not yet
translated the string.

I know you have asked this of a specific individual, but in case he
isn't available I'll answer it anyway.

It is fine to file bugs on the ubuntu-translations project where the
bug is about translations not having been completed. If you open such
bugs on packages but the package is not responsible for the absence of
the translation, they are likely to be rejected, because those working
on the package have no ability to fix the bug and there is nothing
wrong with the package. That's certainly the approach we use in
ubuntu-docs.

I believe that you know this already because I've seen you correctly
use this approach on another bug.

Chinese translations of the Ubuntu Desktop Guide are 99.96% incomplete,
and for that reason can't be included:

Closing as not a bug in ubuntu-docs.

Bug description:
There's a longstanding issue (see the duplicate bug #555641) with
Compiz and multi-monitor setups with any combined dimension larger
than the maximum GL texture size. It used to be the case that this
would simply crash compiz, but mesa now has code to fallback to
software rendering for those cases. Unfortunately, this rendering is
unacceptably slow (on the order of 10s of seconds per frame),
particularly since the only hardware that will realistically hit this
limit is netbook hardware with the associated anaemic CPU. It also
appears to be broken in some cases (see bug #830949), although I can't
  reproduce that myself.

The Compiz "Copy to Texture" plugin can break textures up into <= max
texture size chunks, allowing hardware rendering to work with these
large framebuffers. This is insufficient for Unity, though, which
also needs a way to break up its FBOs.

For Oneiric we should patch g-s-d's xrandr plugin to disallow setting
a multi-monitor configuration with any dimension >= max texture size
when Unity is running. Additionally, the display capplet should not
allow a resolution to be explicitly set that will break Unity. For P
this should be dropped in favour of enabling Compiz's "Copy to
  Texture" plugin and fixing Unity.

  String Freeze Exception Request:
This patch adds a new failure mode and explanatory error message to
gnome-desktop's randr handling. This new message is required to explain to the
user why their multi-head setup request has been rejected, and what can be done
about it.

  Original report:
THIS IS A MASTER BUG OF FOUR DIFFERENT BUGS:

Oneiric Alpha 3 installed on this system. Under testing, one test is
to plug in an external monitor and ensure that external video
functions properly. On this EeePC, it does not. (See photo attached
  to this bug).

Once the external montior is plugged in, both the primary display and
the external display are horribly garbled. The only thing that exists
on the screen that's remotely readable is the panel at the top. The
rest of the desktop area is just a mess.

Re: [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Schedule for language pack updates for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) now ready!

2011-10-27 Thread Gabor Kelemen

2011-10-27 14:01 keltezéssel, Kenneth Nielsen írta:

Any questions and comments for the schedule are welcome.
I see that there are only two full updates scheduled: the first that is
already out today, and the fifth, after Precise - this is not good
enough. I think we should provide one more opportunity for slower teams
to complete their docs translations, and release it before they start
entirely focusing on Precise. Therefore, I'd like to propose that we
make the third update a full one. This way their users could get better
translations and use them for a considerable time before they all
upgrade to Precise :).

As for the collision with that developer event David mentioned: I think
if we delay the third update by a week, that would be still fine.

Gabor Kelemen

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 786632] Re: libubuntuone needs to be set up for translations in Ubuntu

2011-10-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package pkgbinarymangler - 105

---
pkgbinarymangler (105) precise; urgency=low

  * pkgstriptranslations: Also strip X-GNOME-Keywords. Add corresponding test
case.
  * dh_translations: Also check configure.ac for GETTEXT_DOMAIN. (LP: #786632)
  * pkgstripfiles: First symlink identical doc files, then truncate Debian
changelogs. Otherwise truncated changelogs will never be identical due to
the added "please see apt-get changelog " line. In oneiric and
before this got hidden because of a wrong exit code of zcmp, which has
been fixed in gzip 1.4 in precise.
  * pkgstripfiles: As we truncate long Debian changelogs, and a packages'
dependencies may not have been processed by pkgstripfiles yet, Debian
changelogs are sometimes different at the tail. Debian changelogs are
generally identical between binary packages anyway, but as there is the
theoretical possibility of having a binary package specific one, do a
comparison still, but only the topmost 20 lines.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Call for testing of the first language pack update for Ubuntu 11.10 (FULL UPDATE)

2011-10-27 Thread Kenneth Nielsen
Hi translators,

Ubuntu 11.10 the Oneiric Ocelot was released two weeks ago and it is
therefore time for the first language pack update. This fist update
will allow us to quickly correct any potential high priority problems.
Furthermore, for this release there was some problems, that caused the
translation of the documentation for some modules to be left out of
the release. This has now been fixed and in order to make sure that
everyone gets all the translations that you have worked on, it is
therefore __very important__ that we get as many as possible language
packs release this time.

We've uploaded the language packs to the oneiric-proposed repository
for you to test before they are released to all users. These should
contain all your updates and fixes in translations done since the
release date.

I'd like to ask teams to test them and provide an indication that
they've done so by following some simple steps and submitting a
signoff, so that we know that translations have been successfully
tested.

Simply follow the instructions in this page and add your team's
signoff in the appropriate table:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/LanguagePackUpdatesQA
PLEASE NOTE. That since this is a full update, including
documentation, you must also perform the documentation tests described
at the end of the page.

The deadline for the testing is the 9th of November (in two week's
time). After that, we'll update the language packs we've received
feedback for into oneiric-updates, so that all users can benefit from
the new translations and fixes.

Remember that you'll have to to enable the oneiric-proposed repository
to get these updates:

 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

Notes
-

Remember that now you can subscribe to the iCal feed to stay up to
date with language pack updates and better coordinate your work:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/OneiricLanguagePackReleaseSchedule

Thank you for your help in testing translations for all users in your language!

Regards,
Kenneth.

Currently the .policy file shipped by software-properties does not
