[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 2042065] Re: [DE] Installation setup - Bulky translation - "download updates during installation"-dialog

2020-10-31 Thread Torsten Franz
Thank you Christian.

I see it sometimes that it is difficult for some translators to see
where upstream is. I would have thought that it would be here:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gstreamer

Can you please link where it is fixed so that we can learn?

Status in Ubuntu Translations:

Bug description:
A term in a warning text printed by the program gst-launch-1.0 of the package
gstreamer1.0 is mistranslated in german. This appeared on bionic and focal,
possibly earlier.
The following example uses 'ximagesrc', 'video/mpeg' and 'ximagesink', but
this issue is not specific to those elements. One command with two output
variants, one with en_US, the other with de_DE.

  gst-launch-1.0 ximagesrc ! video/mpeg ! ximagesink

WARNING: erroneous pipeline: could not link ximagesrc0 to ximagesink0,
neither element can handle caps video/mpeg

WARNUNG: Fehlerhafte Leitung: ximagesrc0 konnte nicht mit ximagesink0
verknüpft werden. Keines der Elemente kann mit Großbuchstaben
  video/mpeg umgehen

Here, "caps" is translated to "Großbuchstaben" ("capital letter"),
where it means the program-specific term "capabilities".

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 1484484] Re: Wrong German translation of "holiday"

2015-09-06 Thread Torsten Franz
I think "Feiertage" is the right term for it. Yes "Feiertage" and
"Ferien" are not the same. "Ferien" are only use in the context of
school and university. I think "Urlaub" is not correct cause that is
only the days for a individual person when she take her free days which
are a dependency of the contract between her and her company.

Bug description:
The today scope can be configured to display the next holidays. The
label has a wrong German translation.

The word "holidays" can have two meanings in English:
  1. "official day without work" (German translation: "Feiertag" resp.
"Feiertage" when referring to a single or few days; "Ferien" when referring to
a longer period.)
  2. "vacation" (German translation: "Urlaub", i.e. a holiday trip.)

Currently, the German translation reads "Urlaub", which is meaning no. 2 and
obviously wrong in this context.
The correct translation in this context would be no. 1, but it may be
difficult to decide if "Feiertag(e)" or "Ferien" should be used.

  * Als nach der Anzeige zu lesen doesn't make much sense. Not sure

  the least weird.

  * Bevorzugen Klartextmeldungen should be Bevorzuge Klartext
(Meldung is more like Announcement, there's no need for the

  * Zum löschen markierten Nac... doesn't make much sense either. I'm
wondering if the english text shouldn't be inverted here and changed
to Delete immediately. Mark as deleted is a bit less descriptive
IMO. If kept, could be translated to Als gelöscht markieren.
