We recommend that all translations take place upstreams and then imported. My calculations shows that 95% of all Swedish translations are imported from upstream into Ubuntu, the rest is done in Launchpad (ubuntu-docs etc.) We have had a large number of new translators who submits really bad translations (Swedish is a very difficult language). Some even submits translations directly from Google Translate (so wrong and out of context). The problem we face now are all the open translations done in Launchpad (outside Ubuntu). Some are really bad and that will have a negative effect on the application usage, even if the application is a very good application. It's just that process for doing any translation submissions is so much more involved, that people who go through that are willing to go through the process of making sure that person is responsive. Basically, there's more of a what after process in place, but that was built over time. Hopefully, Ubuntu is getting that soon as well. I second this, there are a lot of open translations in Launchpad. The problem is that developers/maintainers fear that closing or moderating the translation process will lead to less translations being done. In part that's true, and in part it's due to the fact that we don't know all the applications that are translatable in Launchpad in an easy way. Another problem is applications hosted in Launchpad that can't fall under the Ubuntu Translators umbrella, since they are not an Ubuntu specific application. And that's where the Launchpad Translators group should enter, but there are still too few language teams in that group. Changing coordination team names
Hi all, As discussed in the ubuntu-translations-coordinators mailing list, I've applied the following name changes to the ubuntu-translations-coordinators and launchpad-translations-coordinators teams: 1) The 'ubuntu-translation-coordinator' team name has been changed to 'ubuntu-translations-coordinators'. Its mailing list address in Launchpad has been renamed accordingly and its archives have been migrated to the new list.
