Re: Preview for ubiquity-ubuntu-slideshow
Hello Adi, Thanks for great work. I think 'ru' is complete now, excluding one thing - as I filed in bug #453147 - Russian language have redundant entry - ru_RU (more precisely - only OO.o template - the rest are untranslated) dunno, how it will reflect on system, but I'm pretty sure about removal of ru_RU branch. That's fantastic work Adi!, I've forwarded it straight away to our local translation team. Just one quick note about the exact time of the deadline. Since the export and upload of translations is manual work developers will have to do (i.e. not in a cron job or such), and it is going to be an exception, I didn't suggest a hard deadline, that is, I didn't specify a time on the 22nd. It will probably be some time noon CEST. The Password: string does not come from gdm itself, but from the linux-pam template: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/pam/+pots/linux-pam/ca/102/+translate (substitute 'ca' for your language code) == Indicator messages == The message indicator on the panel will only show translations for the messaging applications in its list if the indicator-messages template is translated (more info here [1]) https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/indicator-messages/+pots/indicator-messages I see the following languages have not yet got any translations for indicator messages, but there might be more: * Basque * Bosnian * Czech * Greek == Indicator session == The New Session... message in the session indicator was changed to Change User... (see [2]) https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/indicator-session/+pots/indicator-session I see that at least the following languages still haven't got a translation for this one. Since that string was already translated for most languages in fast-user-switch-applet, it might just be one click away: * Asturian * Bulgarian * Galician * Romanian * Vietnamese If any of you has got any other tips on those visible but not-so-easy-to-find strings, now it's a good time to share them :) Regards, David. You can start translating it here: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/aptdaemon/+pots/aptdaemon and I've also raised its priority for now, so it appears on the first page of translations in Launchpad. These translations - some of them are quite visible - are coming from xml files, so the language packs do not solve the problem. I can only think that the po files should be exported from Launchpad and the affected packages[1] have to be rebuilt. Is this what will happen? :) [1]: http://paste.ubuntu.com/297581/ Regards Gabor Kelemen Thanks for the heads up, Gabor. If I'm not mistaken, the answer is that it depends on the package :). * For packages in main where Ubuntu is not the upstream, this is probably not easy to solve right now, since as you say the only solution would be to manually export Launchpad translations and rebuild the packages with those. This might be complicated, as it would introduce an additional manual step and add another diff to the upstream packages. An alternative might be to explore the option of loading the translations at runtime from the .mo files, as it is being done on .desktop and .schema files (see [1], [2] and [3] - notice that the section on .policy files is still empty as I haven't had the chance to look into it yet ;), but anyone should feel free to update and expand that page ) * For packages in main where Ubuntu is the upstream, we might be able to come up with a list like the one you did and ask developers to export translations, rebuild and upload the packages by e.g. NonLanguagePackDeadline. It is going to be too late for this cycle, but it is certainly something we can have a look into for Lucid. Do you think you could add a note to the NonLanguagePackDeadline page so it doesn't get forgotten? Regards, David. request for release notes translations
Hi folks, We're at that time of the release cycle again where the release notes are coming together, and your help is needed to translate them. The Ubuntu 9.10 release candidate is coming tomorrow, so we want to make sure our early adopters get useful information when clicking that link from within the live CD installer. Draft release notes for Ubuntu 9.10 are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KarmicKoala/ReleaseNotes. While these are not yet final, I expect that all the issues documented there will be included in the final release notes. And as for past releases, please use https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KarmicKoala/ReleaseNotes/langcode for your translations, and coordinate with Matthew Nuzum matthew.nuzum at canonical.com (cc:ed), when you are ready to have these translations linked from the Ubuntu website. Hi All, FYI, but this is important notes(maybe). In my experience, I commit a few emendation from this *edge* translations.LP, translations are dropped out by strange behavior. So, I suggest that you have to use non-edge LP. https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/ https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/ The deadline ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu translations is 22 Oct 2009, 00.00 UTC . -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

Hi, I have just updated the webpage with an Rosetta export received at 15:08-UTC http://l10n.ubuntu.tla.ro/ubuntu-karmic-ubiquity-slideshow/langs.html În data de Mi, 21-10-2009 la 13:09 +0800, Aron Xu a scris: Hi Adi, Thanks for your work, but where is the picture for firefox? AFAIK it doesn't show up when I choose zh_CN with my firefox. Aron Here is the info from Dylan McCall : (Unfortunately), this is intentional. Mozilla's trademark policy blocks us from distributing the real icon with the package, and pointing to the icon installed to the system means we get either the branded or unbranded icon based on what system the slideshow is running on. It won't load that icon when running from the web, because a web site can only use local resources if it is itself stored locally. Just to have an icon, i have modified the slide to display a generic web png... but on an Ubuntu system it will show and Firefox icon. I have another info from Dylan, regarding the links from the documentation / support slide. Oh, with regards to your query, the link should be kept intact. (Although, if there's an official Ubuntu web site that has the same page translated to the appropriate language, that would be fine). The reason for that is because this particular community page (ubuntu.com/community) has a real wealth of information, including community support, how to contribute and information about local teams :) Cheers!
