Re: Noble Numbat general call for translations

2024-04-15 Thread Adolfo Jayme Barrientos
On Weblate, random people not belonging to ~ubuntu-l10n-es keep overwriting
proofread translations with their inferior versions.

Excuse me, but I don’t want to spend my limited vacation time playing a
game of chase with the work I do. I thought vetting was to be introduced
after the malicious translation incident.

I wrote on Canonical’s Discourse YEARS AGO about you needing to host your
own instance and leverage your own people; that way your established
language communities don’t do double work.

Re: Translate 3rd party apps / scopes

Hi, Marc:

2015-04-21 13:03 GMT-05:00 Marc . ktatar...@gmail.com:
 - if app/scope landing in store, is it also lands in launchpad?

Launchpad is a development platform, or a forge, which a developer may
use or not. There are developers who prefer to work with GitHub, and
that’s fine.

 - is there one place to translate all 3rd party apps/scopes?

No, for the same reason stated above. Each third party developer
chooses their workflow and tools.

If second not, maybe better way will be that: someone created app /
scope and he want to publish it in store. So he will be obliged to
make possibility of translating that in launchpad / other centralized
 place?

No, please don’t force people to do that. Not all free software
projects are in Launchpad, not all Android/iOS applications are
developed and translated with the same tools. Why should the Ubuntu
platform be different in that regard, and force everyone to use tools
which may not be the most efficient for their workflow? We’re talking
about the freedom that everyone has to work however they want.

Best regards

Re: gnome-control-setting missing translations

That would be because Trusty doesn’t use gnome-control-center anymore,
but a fork called unity-control-center, which was announced a while
back. You need to update translations in the latter to see the
application translated, as pointed out in the report.

Don’t worry, this is an LTS and translations can be updated for 14.04.1, etc.

 Hi translators and documenters

I am requesting a UI freeze exception to add an important (required, really)
legal notice to the Online Accounts control center panel:

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center-signon/+bug/1056718

The fix to the bug is essential if Online Accounts is to be included in
Ubuntu, as it ensures that Canonical (which owns the API keys) fulfils the
terms of service of the providers which are used. More information on the
legal details can be found in the bug, and the legal notice can be found in
 the merge:

 https://code.launchpad.net/~amigadave/online-accounts-gnome-control-center/legal-notice/+merge/126387

The relevant UI changes are the addition of two user-visible strings (‘Learn
more’ and ‘Legal notice’ for buttons which link to the legal notice), the
change of an existing string (adds a full stop at the end of a sentence) and
the addition of the legal notice as a Mallard page (a page of legal copy).
The additions result in the UI of the panel changing to accommodate the new
buttons, such that any existing screenshots would need to be retaken.
Screenshots of the existing panel and the proposed changes are available in
 the bug.

Can a freeze exception be granted?

 Thanks in advance

OK, not a big deal. But I hope next cycle the work gets better

 Dear translators and documentation team,

You may have heard about a in-depth discussed new feature of Quantal about
 the dash search. :)
The design and desktop team worked on it taking the feedback into account to
give an easier way to disable this feature on the user's machine.

Nevertheless, this needs an addition of 3 strings. Those are:
 #: ../src/activity-log-manager.vala:57
 msgid Search Results
 msgstr

 #: ../src/searchresults-widget.vala:60
 #, c-format
msgid When searching in the Dash:
 msgstr

 #: ../src/searchresults-widget.vala:67
 #, c-format
msgid Include commercial suggestions from Ubuntu partners.
 msgstr

 all in activity-log-manager.

The UI will migrate into quantal after the beta2 freeze. It will though only
be displayed once the next unity release will happen, so don't worry if you
don't see it before (but the strings and interface will be there, so opened
 for translation).

You can get more info in the description of the corresponding bug:
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/activity-log-manager/+bug/1054746

Sorry for the late late change, but we think it will make ubuntu better for
 most of our community.
