Just a ballpark:

* Mozilla translation platform is pontoon https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/
string count for Firefox is around 27k.

* LibreOffice translation platform is weblate
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/
string count for UI is around 39k, help ~53k

* GNOME translation platform is Damned Lies https://l10n.gnome.org/
string count for UI is around 43k, help ~15k
they are for GNOME 'core', many more modules are available.

Mozilla and LibreOffice platform support online and offline translation,
while GNOME only support offline (you need to download file to be translated,
do translation using your preferred app, then upload translation result back
to the platform).

Using a translation app which has a machine translation feature can really
speed up your task by automatically querying DeepL, Google Translate,
Microsoft Translator, etc. Of course you still need to review those
result
manually. Not sure if any of those support your target language.

Another number to consider, on a really good day I can translate around
500 strings. But on average I process around 100 strings a day. Not sure
how quick those commercial translation services can do.

Andika

Specific to Trusty vs GNOME, I've created a page
to track upstream relation
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Upstream/GNOME/GnomeTrustyModules

Need feedback and extra eyes to do URL verification :D

Long tail of wrong translation language, how to correct?

2009-10-07 Thread Andika Triwidada
Dear translation admins,

There are several strange translation suggestion for Indonesian. For example:
https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/kde-guidance/+pots/guidance/id/87/+translate
This translation comes from different language (Hungarian?),
definitely unrelated to Indonesian.

It will appear as an annoying suggestion for translations like in:
https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/gdm/+pots/gdm/id/206/+translate
and many other places.

I think this is related to bug #133315:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-guidance/+bug/133315

What is the best way to prevent those wrong suggestion from keep reappearing?

Thanks

Effect of wrong language translation upload?

2007-10-19 Thread Andika Triwidada
Dear Translators,

Please check this out-of-place Indonesian translation
https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/+source/kde-guidance/+pots/guidance/id/

'Cleaning' those 11 strings translation will be a quick job, but it
has a quite widespread side-effect: it offers suggestions to various
other Indonesian translations. I need your advice how to negate this.

Thank you in advance, and please let me know where to ask if this list
is not the appropriate place.
