LanguagePacks for Testing
Hey everybody! I have a question about LanguagePacks concerning testing of new Ubuntu releases. Maybe there is someone who knows the answer to this: When I download the daily image from cdimages.ubuntu.com of the upcoming release (Saucy) will the LanguagePack also receive daily updates? Otherwise what schedule is used for it? Is there a PPA I can use to see the latest changes I applied? Kubuntu Docs removed?
Hey everybody! During the last release cycles no translations were included for Kubuntu Documentation. Now it seems that the package has been removed from Kubuntu completely [1]. Can anybody confirm this? So all of our translations were basically a waste of time? If so, it would be great if you could remove the Kubuntu Docs templates from Launchpad's translation overview page [2] for Ubuntu Raring and future releases. I do not think what you are trying to do is possible since this would enable you to install applications for 13.04 in 12.04. Hey everybody! Tried Google Translator Kit today for German translations and sadly it doesn't produce a lot of useful translations. The main problem is sentence structure and grammar are totally messed up. In addition, is there a way to tell Google how it should translate a certain word? It messes up words like engine that better should not be translated. I'll try a bit more, maybe there is something useful coming out of it somehow. Otherwise offline translation probably will be the best option we have right now. Redmar, your script is very useful for this! This was because you didn't put the LP header at the beginning of the po file and maybe templates didn't match. Upstream and LP templates aren't exactly the same because not every template change is imported into LP and sometimes LP has additional strings. Best way to work around this problem is to download the incomplete translations from LP, download upstream translations from GNOME, update the GNOME file with LPs template by using a translation tool (e.g. Virtaal). After updating the template you have to open both files with a text editor (make sure you saved them in Virtaal first and closed them) and copy the LP header (important are the two lines that look like this[1]) to the GNOME file which you updated before. Now you can import this file into LP and translations should show up after some time (maybe a day, can be less or more). Hi everybody! Also I've noticed that the Dutch team has tested the language packs and left some feedback. Just a quick note that if you put 'no' to the page means that you consider the bugs you've found as critical enough to not justify a language pack update. So if you can live with the bugs and would still like to get the language pack update (and benefit from the post-release fixes and additions) please consider if you'd rather put 'yes'. I tested and signed out for the German team. For now, I also put 'no' because the LibreOffice-Bug[1] as well as the Print-Notification-Bug[2] should be fixed before we release a new update since they are highly visible and affect main components. Also to the Dutch team - could you report bugs for the following points you added to the test page, so that they can be tracked and fixed?: * LibreOffice Writer/Calc/Impress/Draw should be translated * Menu items Firefox Help not translated I'm not on the Dutch team but I can also see the first bug, so I created a bug report[1] for this one. The second bug does not seem to affect the German translation. But with some changes it should be possible. Maybe I'll make a second version in the future. I can't just change the code, because it'll break current (wanted) functionality. So I think of some adding optional features or a second page to get a list as you requested. However, for the moment I know a cumbersome work around. if you checkout the code[1], you can run the tool from the commandline with: ./getstatus.py URL_TO_WIKI What you can do is make a wiki page which contains the Launchpad URL you need. Then you do ./getstatus.py URL_TO_WIKI | grep gnome to get the gnome packages only. The Gnome packages are divided over several pages if I look here [2]. What you can do is make a wiki page for each Launchpad URL, and then make a bash script which runs the Tool for each wiki page and store it in 1 file. I've made an example for the first page on Launchpad here [3]. Now I realize that the intended functionality is to let fully translated packages disappear from the list. Hey. Ok, but the way to access control center is the same in Unity 3D and in Unity 2D as far as I can see. Only in Gnome it's different. But since Gnome is not the fallback in 11.10 anymore you can just go ahead and translate the string, so it fits for Unity I guess. Most people should see Unity anyway. An alternative would be to change the original string to contain a directive for Gnome and one for Unity. Translation testing
Hi David! Just a short question concerning translation testing that came up during Bug day yesterday. Is there a way to see the current state of translations in Natty (on a running system, not in Launchpad)? Because it's really difficult to see if problems are already solved or just exist because some translation wasn't exported from Launchpad yet. For Lucid and Maverick we do have the PPA, which is updated semi-weekly, so that gives you a preview of fixed bugs. But there isn't anything like that for Natty that I know of. Other packages also release updates for Natty very often so you can see, which bugs have been fixed and which bugs need to be fixed when testing Natty. The Languages tab of Add-ons said that Firefox (zh-TW) is enabled. (I'm using Traditional Chinese) Do other languages have the same problem?
