Hi Yaron,

No need to apologize, it's completely fine to insist on a topic that
hasn't been answered. In fact, I'd encourage people to do it rather than
getting threads die. Perhaps no one could answer it at that point, and
sending a friendly reminder at a later date might catch the attention of
someone who can answer it then.

I'm not sure I can answer everything, but let me have a try.

Could you give us some background (e.g. URL, or a short explanation) of
the exact changes you are referring to?

This will help everyone be on the same page and either be aware on them
or be able to answer some of the questions.

I'm not sure I understand the question, could you please elaborate?

Right now, if we are speaking of the general Ubuntu docs (topic, not
app-based documentation), that's already a separate package and a
separate translatable template in Launchpad.

If we are talking about app-specific docs, right now documentation tends
to be on the same package as the application. In these cases, and given
the fact that Launchpad does not yet support direct translation of
documentation (unless converted to gettext), the level of support is
varied: either per app documentation is not translatable there (e.g.
GNOME documentation) or it is in some particular cases (e.g. Software
Center documentation).

I'm not aware of any changes regarding to the packaging there, but it
might well be that I'm not up to date with development plans. If this is
the case, it would be great if you could tell us more about this if you
know more.

There is no support for separation between distributions or package sets
in Launchpad Translations, so I'm afraid that this is not possible yet.

You might want to talk to Martin Pitt (pitti on IRC, on #ubuntu-devel or
#ubuntu-desktop).

For the record, there are several open bugs related to this:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/389428
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vte/+bug/263822

In this comment, Jean-Baptiste Lallement makes also an interesting
suggestion:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vte/+bug/325324/comments/29

Regards,
David.

Yes, I would like to know the answer to these questions too.

Thanks,

Package categorization

2010-12-14 Thread Yaron Shahrabani
Hey Guys!
I was really thrilled to hear about the changes to the package structure in
Natty (separating the common packages from Ubuntu/Kubuntu specific and so
on), and I have some questions:
1. Will the docs be separated from the app packages?
2. Can I assign different members for each distribution? (I want someone to
work in Kubuntu but I won't let him touch the core)
3. (This one is a little of topic) I need some help implementing a mechanism
that will not display Hebrew strings in CLI (Linux kernel bugs) who do you
think I should turn to?

Kind regards,
Yaron Shahrabani
