Those strings were not translatable due to a bug. You can now translate
them at:

I've also noticed that the audio test (left speaker, right speaker) has
English sound files.
I believe the package to file against is gnome-control-center. Am I right ?

These files are from alsa-utils package. Nothing can be done with GCC,  
imho.
