yes I already have, but for their target audience, I a may be
currently exceptional in not wanting to make the usual sheep sounds
and use winworld. Unfortunately I like some of their output and have
no intention of using other than linux.

Thanks Andy, the plugins was not installed and using adept as above
was easy. Plugins for java installed now.

However, I still do not get a player starting.

You're right, sucky website setup for Windows media play. I'd mail them
and make a fuss if I was you.

Alan,

I've just successfully accessed the listen live bit of that site from a
machine with an almost vanilla install of Ubuntu plus the following two
packages:

sun-java5-jre
sun-java5-plugin

I'm thinking actually apt-getting sun-java5-plugin might resolve the
problem (I'm no java expert - but I'm having to use a nasty java based
CMS at the moment).

Regards,

Andy

[ubuntu-uk] Java runtime Environment and firefox?

2006-11-29 Thread alan c
I have installed JRE from a sun download binary and now can run from menu
internet>sun java web start
which opens a java application cache viewer

However, I still do not seem to have firefox working with a site such as
http://www.saga.co.uk/1066fm/pages/index.asp

which seems to need jre for listen live.

the file
libjavaplugin_oji.so
is in my mozilla (ie firefox) plugins directory as a link as a result
of the sun install

Comments would be appreciated

Ah ha... the Bolto TIC host of schoolforge-uk's conference last year. I
went along and gave a presentation, the reception was really good
although I felt that it was a bit like preaching to the converted.

On a side note there is a top notch sandwich bar just down the road ;)
yum yum
