I think it could well be.
Thanks for your suggestion about looking on the Router itself.
Might have to get dad to re-install the wireless part, he has done it
for his and mum's setup at home because I think they are probably
same.

2007-06-09 Thread Josh Blacker

Hi,
Is this a BT Home Hub router/phone combo you're talking about? If so look on
the back of the hub, there should be two sets of information: a BT Home Hub
SSID/wep key, which will be for your wireless internet and a BT Fusion id
and passkey which I guess is for the phone - we only have the router and not
the phone so I don't use this. (I do actually have problems finding the
network and connecting to it, but that's another matter...).
Hope this helps?

Recently BT which is my ISP insisted on sending me their Wireless
Router with Hub phone and my sister set me up yesterday but she had
problems with the wireless card for my laptop as it wasn't lighting
up.
I think I may have another problem as I think she may not have set up
wireless properly, I have to have Sighted assistance setting up some
of these things as I am totally Blind.
I am certain she might not have set up the Wireless part of the Router
even though it does work for the Ethanet connection so I do have a
wired connection for my desktop.
What I would like to know is is the WEP key different from my BT
Password and Broadband phone Password and also can wireless be set up
at any stage if it hasn't been activated already when my sister did
the original installation which she did under Windows as she is not a
Linux user?
If my Broadband phone password which I need for Broadband hub phone
and my BT password are different from the WEP key where do I find this
key for activating Wireless on the Router or is this a key which I
have to create myself a bit like my sudo password etc for Ubuntu
Feisty?

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Latest Upgrade

2007-06-09 Thread peter
Hi

I said I was not impressed with latest update. Basically my machine
just hangs, To be fair I lost patience after a couple of minutes and
went back one,(forget the number) that is also now broke!

I think I had to go way down my list to find one which was OK.

I will be interested to see what it does to my lappy!

Funnily I had this problem before (very long boot) but the previous
upgrade fixed it.

Thanks

Peter

Probably no consolation, but this morning kernel upgrade worked fine for me.

Maybe some more details would help?

Tony.

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Preventing lightning strike & surges

2007-06-09 Thread Skippy
In Regards to Lightning Protection

BS 6651 will recommend Physical protection -
http://www.furse.com/elp/lpov.htm
And BS EN 7671 should list how to deal with surges, however I would
recommend more than just a Surge Protector, or using a serge protector with
a UPS

Regards
