Re: [ubuntu-uk] idea for screencast

2007-10-13 Thread Joshua Scotton
You want to use CryptKeeper in the screencast. It's a gnome applet and
uses encfs and fuse. It's dead simple to install and use on a basic
ubuntu setup.

Basically you create a folder which can dynamically grow and encrypt it
with a password.

Once you've mounted the folder with the gnome applet, you use it like a
normal folder. I've been using it on my hd and usb drives for a couple
of months now without any problems at all.

It's not in the repos atm but you can download a deb file for it from
getdeb.

What an excellent idea. I shall speak to local publishers about getting this
setup :)

[ubuntu-uk] Submitting articles to newspapers/local mags

2007-10-13 Thread Chris Rowson
Hi folks,

This is just a quick post to the list, asking you to consider writing
to your local newspaper or magazine to promote Ubuntu.

The article has already been written for you. You can edit it, change
it or leave it as it is, but the general idea is that it should take
the effort out of having to write your own unless you really want to.

You can find the article here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKMarketing/ArticleForLocalMagazine

There's a small table at the bottom of the article to track
submissions. Please, fill it out when you submit the article so that
we can track its spread, and how useful it is.

Thanks

Chris

PS. I've sent this message to both the ubuntu-uk loco, and the
marketing mailing list. If you want to forward it on to other
interested parties please do :-)

This is a great idea. If anyone is in Philips area, even just getting a
couple of people together in a pub for a "meet and greet" would be good.
Same goes for any other area!

Cheers,
Al.

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Full Circle Magazine looking for podcasters

Yeah, Matt is part of the Screencast team. He runs a podcast [0] in Aus
and asked me to go on it. So we recorded the episode over gizmo [1].

> Alan - could you feed back to the group where you currently stand with
> the Full Circle podcast idea? Do you want/need others from ubuntu-uk

During that podcast I learned first hand a bit about recording an online
audio podcast, and some of the limitations. One of the items on the list
for discussion was Ronnies thread on ubuntuforums. Matt threw his hat
into the ring and mentioned my name [2] :) He's clearly keen to do
something in relation to this.

From my perspective I'm interested in _some_ kind of new media (audio or
video podcast) centred around Ubuntu. I've been thinking about what form
that could take, and have made some suggestions on the Ubuntu Marketing
[3] [4] [5] mailing list.

I note that some feedback came back suggesting that it might be prudent
to hook up with already existing content providers (podcasters to you
and me ;) ) and get them involved in the marketing team discussions.
That way there can be more evangelism / marketing of the Ubuntu products
and brand without considerable extra effort from new content providers.

I am in two minds about what to do. Whether to start by doing a podcast
based on the UWN, whether to do something for full circle, or just sit
back and watch you lot do it :)

Through the screencast project I have most of the equipment needed to do
audio podcasting (a couple of decent mics, mixer etc). I've also been
watching episodes of GMT [6] to improve my knowledge. So you could say
I've been thinking about this quite a bit.

Cheers,
Al.

Alan - could you feed back to the group where you currently stand with
the Full Circle podcast idea? Do you want/need others from ubuntu-uk
to get on board with Matt and yourself?

about some of you guys contact Matt and form a 'super-group'? I'm sure
he'd be glad of some extra help? :)
