Re: [ubuntu-uk] Server OS Suggestion
Thank you for all of your answers. And the winner is Ubuntu ! I'd already more or less made up my mind, but this helped me justify it to colleagues. Thanks Chris -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

LibGD allows you to create graphics on the fly using PHP. This means that you can use data in a database to create graphs on the fly by calling the php-script instead of an image: This executes the php script and puts an image in its place. It's definitely worth a look, used properly it can work really well! I'd be interesting in getting a couple, maybe if we could get a decent run of them off we could get ones to put up in places. Re: [ubuntu-uk] AAC Encoder
I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject of encoders, but I believe there is a program called faac for aac encoding. But if you're encoding a whole mp4 movie, you may want to use mencoder (associated with mencoder). I've not tried mp4 but I'm led to believe they are supported, and I've definitely created AVIs with aac audio using it. So I would say to have a look at faac or mencoder and see if they fit your need. P.S. Mencoder is definitely scriptable, I think faac probably will be. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

[ubuntu-uk] AAC Encoder
Hi guys, This is not strictly Ubuntu related, but I thought some of you might be able to help. A colleague at work has managed to set up Clipshare (Kinda like a youtube clone - http://www.clip-share.com/) on our Flash Media server at work, but is needing a scriptable AAC encoder that will run on the LAMP the media server sits upon, to enable MP4 encoding properly. Any Ideas? Interesting, i contacted the creator of the show during Series 2 with the intention of getting a Ubuntu poster in the background. They said it wasn't out of the question, but Series 3 was not yet in the planning stage. I would imagine that the 'Highway' poster would be less than ideal, but one stating "Ubuntu, Linux for Human Beings" only would be a really good idea. We would need to speak to Canonical to get clearing for the logo, i can't imagine them saying No. So the next thing is getting a suitable sized poster. If it's just a plain poster, would should probably consider getting a run of at least 10 - as i know i'd certainly consider some. I've added this idea to the IdealsPool of the Wiki [0]. We should probably try and construct a suitable email to Ben. If we start this on the Wiki[1], we could all try and chime in with suggestions. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Server OS Suggestion
I'd go for a Debian based solution as that's what I'm most comfortable with, so of your two it'd have to be Ubuntu (though I wouldn't bother with Gnome for a webserver, Xubuntu is more than sufficient).
