default, the compose screen is different to 'normal'. If so, apologies in

My HTC-Magic (the second Android phone) plays ogg files
"out-of-the-box", so hopefully will not too difficult unless sony make
it difficult :-)

The "no LLU" requirement seriously limits your chances of getting 24mbps.

A BT Exchange is a BT Exchange. Doesn't matter who your ISP is,
you're still physically connected to the same wire and the same
equipment at the exchange.

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Wireless Networking question: Ps3 or Xbox 360

2009-06-08 Thread HippyChick
Our PS3 is using upnp, it seems to play most things, and our server is
transcoding on the fly for those that dont using mediatomb, we are still
musing over the thought of putting ubuntu on the PS3 but heard it doesnt
make full use of the cores so if anyone can confirm that, that would be
great :)

You don't mention if you have cable or ADSL so I can't really advise on
specific models, but I have not had any problems with Netgear routers I
have a DG834G v2 which I used for 3 years or so without any problems
which was recently retired and replaced with a BT Home Hub, and I also
have a Netgear cable router (not sure of the model number off the top of
my head) which was provided by Virgin Media for my cable broadband and
this also works fine although I found the firmware to be a little bit
more restrictive on it (I also found this on a newer Netgear ADSL router).

I've also had pretty good results with Buffalo and Linksys but had no
end of problems with a Belkin router when I first invested in a wireless
router.

Bit pricey that is for a wireless adapter. Does the Elite console come
with a wireless adapter?

I personally don't mind the lack of wireless as I have a switch right
near the TV for my existing PS2 and Media Centre PC but I can see how
for some putting cables in might not be an option (my other half
occasionally moans about the rats nest of cables behind our TV).

I was leaning towards a PS3 mainly for the Bluray capabilities and the
Linux support but considering they aren't dropping the price yet (I was
hoping for an announcement of a price cut at E3) then I've decided to
get an XBOX 360 instead. There are one or two games that I am
interested in with a couple of XBOX exclusives (that Alan Wake game
looks good). I think as far as Bluray is concerned for now I'll just
fork out for a Bluray drive (I've seen a BD-ROM drive for about £50
retail boxed with software) which will pretty much cover my HD movie
playback needs until eventually I can afford a PS3.

Does ushare support transcoding of media on the fly?

You could have a look at TitanADSL.org.uk, I believe they do
non-LLU/non-Enta services (they are Enta resellers but like a lot of
Enta resellers they DO offer alternatives to Enta).

Are you on an exchange which has been enabled for the ADSL2+ service?
From what I understand some of the bigger exchanges have been enabled
by BT but a lot of the smaller exchanges have Wholesale Broadband
Connect & ADSL2+ dates of 2010 or possibly later.

You could look at Plusnet, Zen, Andrews & Arnold to name a few. I
believe PlusNet do throttle their connections but do clearly state what
they do and what they don't throttle. To be honest I think the days of
all you can eat broadband (i.e. truely unlimitied unthrottled broadband
for under £30 a month) are over.

Anyone else got any good suggestions for a good broadband ISP that
offers up to 24 Mbit/s, no LLU, not Entanet, TalkTalk-related or Virgin?

I know very little about such things. However, I'm not too bad at reading
and there is a reasonable article in the July edition of LINUX Format
covering a little about this sort of problem. Apparantly on the
accompanying DVD there is a copy of the article writers xorg.conf which
gets the erasure, buttons and circular pad working. Also within GIMP
these features must be mapped to keystrokes which is done using wacompcpl
tool, included apparantly in the linuxwacom package or available at
