[ubuntu-uk] Terminology beginners...

2009-06-25 Thread Greg Herdman
Thanks to everyone who contributed. I take the points raised - and find
the willingness of listers to help us beginners. Just be warned - I may
be asking a lot of questions.

Many thnaks in anticipation!

Questions are good.

Without them, mailing lists and forums would die.

Oh wow, that would be really useful. I have not been to one before.
Would it be in London, or somewhere else.

We're hoping for there to be more than one. See this mail I sent to the list.

I'd love to get involved or at least go to one but unfortunately I'm
at a friend's wedding that weekend (might be available for the Friday
though). Anyone fancy organising one in Manchester?

Re: [ubuntu-uk] wacom bamboo

I presume you have looked into all the ramifications of xsetwacom,
 if
not then I recommend that you do so. I was shown how easy it is to
verify whether it will work or not, button by button, using a
 terminal.
But then I expect you are aware of that. I will certainly keep my
 eyes
open and my ears to the ground.

No, I haven't looked into that - it looked a bit too complex; but now
you've recommended it, I'll have another look. How do you check that
it'll work, button by button? (Are there any HowTos you'd recommend?)

All you will probably need is at the xsetwacom web page and I have
attached an example script which is self explanatory. It assumes that
you have /usr/local/bin/xsetwacom and to check if it works in Gimp just
put one of the lines in a terminal and press enter and try it. If your
happy youy can run the script in the usual way. More help is available,
just ask.

I use opera mail and for some reason I get everyones messages 4 times. I
got 2 of macs that could be read no problem and 2 blank but with a fetch
complete message button at the top, which when pressed showed the same
message. So they're not really blank.
