Im planning on converting a book from text to speech so i can listen on my DAP. -- Regards Javad -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Not really. It was litigated in a district of Texas that's known for patent trolling. It'll come to naught, especially as it's a small Canadian company suing a large US corporation in the US. :) 2009/8/12 Harry Rickards : > -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- > Hash: SHA1 > > Thought this might be of interest... > > - Original Message > Subject: [Sussex] Judge bans Microsoft Word sales > Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2009 18:10:36 +0100 > From: Andrew Guard > Reply-To: Sussex LUG > To: Linux > > This could be which breaks camels back on the idea of software patents > and how very dumb it all is. > It all down to fact that it using XML. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Firefox or Shiretoko?
That is odd that you mention that. I had problems initially with the Shiretoko version, and it wouldn't install addons and I couldnt get other bits of it to work, since it got the final update, the addons now work, but its still called Shiretoko 3.5.2. I quite like the idea of being able to open them side by side, and it seems it doesnt use the same profile as the 3.0.13 which I think is even better. That is one of the bugbears I have with the windows version, it automatically looks for an excising profile, and wont work side by side properly. Will that be updated sometime so that it only shows Fiefox not Shiretoko? John. Until Karmic is released, both versions will continue to be supported, but from that link, when Karmic is released, that will by default come with Firefox 3.5 and would be named firefox because it wouldn't also include firefox 3.0. Hope that helps. Dave -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
Re: [ubuntu-uk] Firefox or Shiretoko?
Here's a rundown of how firefox naming works in the ubuntu repos: The current stable version that is in the ubuntu repositries is called firefox The later versions (currently 3.5 and 3.6) are given code names (such as Shiretoko) so as not to be confused with the current default version of firefox. Because of this, if you download either 3.5 or 3.6 from the ubuntu repos, it won't be called Firefox, but will have a 'codename' 2009/8/12 Paul Webster > Somehow, an update some time ago installed Shiretoko as a beta version of > Firefox 3.5. It is a direct analogue of the traditional uncompressed iTunesDB and it's possible to go full circle back-and-forth between compressed and uncompressed representations, with no loss of data or functionality. (Even the AES signing method was not changed). In fact the iPhone 3.0 update was wonderful, in that it introduced proper readlink() functionality for symlinks---previously you could see that they were symlinks in the filesystem, just not were they pointed! Of course, it requires a few months (six months in Ubuntu) for new code to filter down to the distributions---but the latest code is already there, ready and waiting. > it's not possible to mount an iPod touch filesystem without hacking into > the iPhone OS firmware iTunes on Mac OS + and iTunes on MS Windows both work without doing anything to the device firmware---and the same is true for the Linux implementations of usbmux, Lockdown, plist and AFC necessary to mount the device on the desktop via USB. The wonderful thing about Free software is---that if you're even remotely unsure about how something functions, you are given the freedom to check the source code for the canonical answer, rather than risk accidently spreading inaccuracies. -Paul -- Why do one side of a triangle when you can do all three. Re: [ubuntu-uk] First generation iTouch in 9.04?
Certainly none 'are required' but it's not possible to mount an iPod touch filesystem without hacking into the iPhone OS firmware, which has dubious legality. If you have the 3.0 update then I've found this post which isn't to hopeful: http://ow.ly/jMmQ 2009/8/11 Paul Sladen > On Tue, 11 Aug 2009, David Stansby wrote: > > A quick look at iTunes 8 (which is needed to sync iPod touches) > > >> David Stansby wrote: > > >>> If anything did work, it would have to be through windows > > iTunes is a utility to talk to iPhones/iTouchen; it is not the _only_ > way---just like Microsoft Windows is not the _only_ operating system. > > Neither are *required*. > >-Paul > -- > Why do one side of a triangle when you can do all three.
