[ubuntu-uk] Thunderbird 3

2009-12-19 Thread John Matthews
How do I install this next to TB2 so that I can run it separately to see
if I like it. I cant find it in the repositories. I want it to run
completely separately.

Thanks

John.

It’s called Shredder in the repo’s. You can also add the PPA for Ubuntu
Mozilla Daily Build Team at
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ppa

A PPA on Launchpad is the best place to look for this sort of thing. A
quick search finds
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ppa,
containing a thunderbird-3.0 package which you should be able to install
alongside TB 2.

Note this is a daily build PPA, and will probably be somewhat untested,
so YMMV etc.

Not had any serious problems with Thunderbird 3 once it finally got my
IMAP folders synchronized. The only problem has been waiting for some of
the addons to become compatible. I know there are ways round this but it
hasn’t been to bad.

Hello, Steve.

I tried the PPA TB3, and it's fine but I can't live without lightning!

Bye,

   Tony.

Hello, Steve

Do you mean this?

http://blog.thomas-lauria.de/archives/9-Mozilla-Lightning-1.0b1-for-Thunderbird-3-on-linux-amd64.html

I'm running the 64-bit version of Karmic (9.10), but I'm a bit nervous
about committing to TB3 with an unofficial build of Lightning for my
calendar because I rely on it! So, I'm sticking with TB2+Lightning 0.9

Thanks for the heads up about the 64-bit version of Lightning 1, but
from what I've read in the 0.9 release notes it looks like Lightning
will become part of TB3:

Lightning 0.9 is intended to be the last release for the Thunderbird 2
series. For the future we are planning to integrate Lightning fully into
the upcoming Thunderbird 3 release

Bye,

   Tony.
