Re: [ubuntu-uk] Dell with Ubuntu?
Not only are they not supplying non-Windows machines, they say that replacing with another OS will invalidate the hardware guarantee. "Dell bought by PC World" - must have missed that press item! :) My LiveCD works perfectly on my sons new Dell though. I take it your meaning is that I should have used 'gksudo nautilus', not 'sudo nautilus'. I seem to have got away with it this time; I can still log in normally and navigate around normally as rowan. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Nvidia Settings (was Media Centre Advice)
Hello, I installed 10.04 on my revo and I too struggled to get any sound via HDMI which refused stubbornly to work despite my best efforts. Finally I gave up and completed the install by activating the nvidia graphics driver. After a reboot I was surprised to find that sound just started working via HDMI. I dont think I made any other changes, so I think it was just activating that nvidia driver that did the trick for me. I was following the install guides on greenhughes.com [1] (which mentions un-muting a channel via alsamixer which I did too) and popeys guide [2] (adapting it for lucid as I went along). I wonder how Google TV will fit into all of this...Maybe you dont need a Revo or dell in there now!!
