Thunderbird a) A new mail option tab in the side bar b) Number of new e-mails (in the same sort of way that the update tool displays the number of updates available) Both of these are already in place. http://popey.com/~alan/tbird.png 9 in the thunderbird icon, and right click to start a new message. [ubuntu-uk] Christmas Revelation
Dear All Santa brought my daughter her first laptop for Christmas. In common with most 11-year olds she appears to never listen to a word I say, but almost her first comment after opening the box was has it already got Linux on it?. There is hope for the future! Brassero (or any cd writing software) some sort of dynamic icon to display progress, even if this is a small box that displays percent complete, i think i saw this on the ubuntu one icon on the unity menu: it had some sort of loading line over the U. Do normal users still burn cds? Would it be better the other way around: sending your music cds to ogg? I am using it is for creating DVDs however the feature is still useful having a progress indicator does not really distract from other work, so in this sense yes, as we create Ubuntu cd's, plus the cd image can be copied to flash drive anyway. So for the authoriing software again it would be non intrusive. I guess i should have said recordable media, I am currently making dvd's of the star trek new voyages episodes so I can watch on the TV through my dvd player. Also cd's a good for making quick backups of stuff. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Exchange in Thunderbird
John Oliver wrote: Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of any way to connect to a corporate Microsoft Exchange server via Thunderbird? This would help me greatly in my work, as having to use OWA (Light, 2007), which is one of the least intuitive pieces of software released by Microsoft, is a bit of a pain for me, as reading emails becomes a chore, and I can only send them back out in plain text format, which isn't especially fabulous for me. The only reliable way I've found to connect anything that's not MS Outlook to MS Exchange is to not use MAPI and instead use a standard like IMAP. That said, I've heard of people using DavMail as a gateway. I've never done it myself, but there's a howto of sorts here: http://karuppuswamy.com/wordpress/2010/05/13/how-to-integrate-thunderbird-with-ms-exchange-to-replace-ms-outlook/ -- Avi -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

In Ubuntu 11.04 and before it, when Evolution was default, built-in Exchange support was on offer, and I used it. If anyone does know a way to access Exchange through Thunderbird, I would be grateful if you could assist me. Regards, John Oliver I use Davmail. It works very well for the basics, though I've not got it working correctly (yet) with Calendar and LDAP. You can run it locally or on a server (I have it running on a VPS) so phone or Gmail can periodically get mail.
