Re: [ubuntu-uk] buying a laptop?
If it were me i'd just look for a laptop that i like. 98% of things can be fixed IMO with some terminal fun :) Whats your budget? Pcspecialists: apparently there's a problem that the touchhpad doesn't work with ubuntu Novatech: don't know if their hardware is compatible with ubuntu or not Looked round PC World a few machines there look reasonable spec/price but don't appear on the Ubuntu-certified hardware list. Slightly over budget but maybe this? http://tinyurl.com/33f9gzj Comes out at about £32 plus about £6 for delivery (unless you happen to live in Manchester I believe which means you might be able to pick one up from their store). Looks like it supports DDR2 and DDR3 memory which is handy, means you can upgrade to DDR3 memory if your CPU supports it (the newer AM3 CPUs will, so Phenom II, Athlon II). I was a bit surprised really to see that standard AM2+ boards (DDR2 only) are getting hard to come by now. Rob Haha Rob, that's the one I linked ages ago. It's quite a good board isn't it? -- Regards, Kris Douglas.
