Re: [ubuntu-uk] BBC Consultation
The BBC are running a consultation about introducing on-demand services (for example, replaying shows over the internet). Question 5 of the consultation asks How important is it that the proposed seven-day catch-up service over the internet is available to consumers who are not using Microsoft software? I have filled in the questionnaire (obviously stating my opinion that the BBC should support Linux), and would like to suggest that others do the same: Offering Windows-only downloads makes as much sense as only broadcasting programs that can be watch on Panasonic TVs! Re: [ubuntu-uk] Firefox no print
Can anyone help with this. I cannot print from Firefox to my postscript printers. I always get a message saying that the printer will not print on that size of paper, or words to that effect.Have you got KDE installed? If so, you can use the KDE print system which has helped me in the past. In Firefox, go to File|Print, then click the properties button. Replace the Print command with kprinter (you might want to copy-and-paste the original to a safe place in case this all goes wrong. The next time you print, you should get the KDE print dialog, which gives you a lot more flexibility and control than Firefox's.Olly -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
Re: [ubuntu-uk] Programs to manage podcasts
HiI think Amarok will do most of what you want. I've only just started playing with the podcast bits of it, but it seems good so far. (a) Automatically downloads the podcasts for the subscribed feedsIt does this. (b) Automatically removes/adds them on my mp3 player given a certainamount of reserved disk space. Something like:use 300MB of the disk for podcasts, delete old podcasts and copy newones if in need of space. It will add new podcasts to the queue of tracks to be transferred to the MP3 player next time you connect it. I don't think you can set a maximum space to be used for podcasts. You can set a maximum number of episodes to store on the PC for each podcast, so it automatically deletes old episodes. I'm not sure if it will automatically remove the old tracks from the MP3 player though. Re: [ubuntu-uk] right out of the box...
This lead me to wonder what we in the Ubuntu - Uk Team might describe as things which in hindsight we have taken for granted but have proved a positive boon for productivity.A moth died inside my PC a couple of days ago, taking the graphics card, motherboard and power supply with it. After rooting around in my box of spare bits I managed to find an old motherboard, graphics card and network card that were still working. I put it all together, turned the PC on, and it booted into Ubuntu straight away - with everything working. This is with a different chipset (Via not SiS) and graphics card (ATI not NVidia).I've got an XP partition too. I haven't tried booting it again yet, but on past experience: - it probably won't boot- I'll have to start it in safe mode- Then I'll have to download the drivers for all the new bits. Hopefully I'll have network access!- Then I'll have to install all the drivers, rebooting several times - Then Windows will demand to be reactivated because too much hardware has changed. It may or may not decide to let me keep using it!So, there you go - a definite success story!Olly -- ubuntu-uk mailing list ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk
