[ubuntu-uk] Canon Pixma Printer - MP480
Just in case anyone missed this. There had been an issue with no specific Linux driver being available for this popular model of multi-function printer. A workaround was posted in Ubuntu Forums on August 2010 (which I missed) using drivers for the MP490. I now have my MP480 printing from my Ubuntu notebook (via an XP server). http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1166715&highlight=mp480 -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
[ubuntu-uk] LTS or Latest Version??
I am always keen to update to the latest releases of Ubuntu. However, can I ask - if I were to stick with a LTS version such as 10.4 long term - would this version eventually receive updates to upgrade to the latest versions of, say, FireFox and OpenOffice when they become available? Or, are the LTS version releases synchronised to match new releases of the above software? In short - for a relative newbie like me (1 year's experience!!) - what is the policy behind Ubuntu releases? [ubuntu-uk] Running From Pendrive with Persistence Allocated
I have been experimenting over the past few months with Ubuntu 9.10 & 10.4 running entirely from a 4Gb USB memory stick and with 1Gb of persistence (Casper) allocated. I use the Pendrive Linux utility to prepare the memory stick. I tend to find that, after a few updates have been received, Ubuntu refuses to boot from the drive due to various errors. Selecting an older Generic Header can restore the boot therefore it appears to be corruption of the latest updated Header. Can I ask if it is best not to receive updates when choosing to run entirely from a USB drive or if a larger allocation of persistence would help.
