I did consider that but I don't think it's going to be up to the job
with a 1.6GHz single core CPU. I need something with a tad more poke,
otherwise it would have probably done the job.

Can I suggest the MSI Wind (or rebadged as the Advent 4211). Mine runs Hardy
with no probs - pretty decent specs and I find it speedy, the real plus is
that it is ultra-ultra portable

Certainly worth considering if you're not looking for a desktop replacement
per se, but something that you can use out and about

Great, I'll have a look in Tescos again tomorrow. I tried the Exeter
branch but there is another one near me too. Certainly worth checking
out I guess.

I do, yes.

Yes, that's the one - nvidia graphics. Price is coming down,
presumably, because there'll be a higher specification one hitting
Tesco soon.

Do you have one of them Sean?

I did see a HP in Tesco's yesterday although they were out of stock. I
think they were about £350 and had the Athlon X2 CPU, is this the one
you mean?

I guess that could be argued, but it doesn't take that much more to
lug around a 15.4" widescreen than a 14" does it? And the size of the
screen definitely helps productivity as you can get a decent
resolution and multiple windows visible simultaneously.

Guess it depends what he wants to do.

Compaq/HP seem pretty good - the widescreen HP Pavilion (15.4", 120GB
h/drive, Vista Home Premium, 2GB memory etc.) that Tesco sells at
about £370 seems to work well enough, including wi-fi.
