I don't really know what to think about these ones:

They are £17 and are being sold by a preferred merchant (another word
for amazon market place? I hear they're selling poor copies on there).
I consider them pretty expensive but would be willing to pay that if
they're a good pair. I'm not sure where to buy them from though or
whether it's safe to buy them from the Amazon
merchant/reseller/whatever they suggest. All I really want is a good
pair of earphones so that I can listen to music and use my computer's
sound whilst others sleep again yet it seems so difficult.

Go for the 400's

THey also come with an extra 1m extension, and they sound better. What I
use.

I use V-moda vibe in-ear headphones (I got a free review pair - lucky me)
and there's a stupidly long review here. Can be had for about £30 if you
shop around, and I really like mine:- they have a lovely warm sound which
I've not got with in-ears before

I have the silvery chrome ones btw :)

[ubuntu-uk] Earphones

2008-09-08 Thread Jai Harrison
Hey,

Until recently I used a pair of Sony MDR-ED21LP Groove Shaped Earpiece
headphones (in-ear earphones) but they recently broke. I took a look
on Amazon where I bought them from 2 years ago and found that some of
the reviews mentioned how fragile they are. So I'm now after a
replacement pair of earphones and figured that someone on the mailing
list would have some suggestions based on a set of earphones they've
been happy with. So, any ideas?

I'm again looking at reviews on Amazon for these things but either the
item doesn't have reviews or they prove to be unreliable and break
shortly after purchase. I'm frankly amazed that my earphones lasted 2
years where others have had to replace them after 3 months. Which is
why I'm asking on this mailing list as I want personal recommendations
of earphones that people have used and know are reliable.

Well, I'm no expert on earphones or sound quality etc., and I'm sure you've
heard this before but,

If you're prepared to spend about £20 the sennheiser PMX100s (or the other ones,
the pmx are the ceckband which I prefer) are very good. Quite sturdy generally,
and (to me) they seem to have very good sound quality.

Other than that, before I got the sennheiser ones I used a spare pair of archos
headphones that came with someone's mp3 player for about 2 years, and they
weren't half bad :P.

Ah, sorry, missed that bit, but I thought I did say they were the neckband type.
Anyway, sorry to go off topic then, I hadn't realised that. Can't say I notice
any sort of adverse sound quality in the sennheisers I've got, they've got the
best sound quality of any headphones I've had before, and I've heard that of the
ones I've got, and the headband version (px100 I think) just about everywhere
(including amazon). As I say, I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure mine don't have
the interference you mentioned.

Regarding the headphones you sent a link for, people seem to have said the same
things about them as they did on mine in the customer reviews. Do watch out for
counterfeits, although you should be safe with amazon. They seem to have the
same sound technology as my headphones, so they should be good on that score. I
would pay attention to the guy who mentions eating/excercising with them on,
although I would imagin this is true of all in-ear headphones (personally I
really don't like using in-ears).

Sorry to suggest something you weren't looking for,
