(I had a problem with a previously perfectly OK atheros pcmcia card). I think the Dell 1525 may have a Broadcom chipset (unlike the 1525n that has ubuntu preinstalled, which uses Intel). Anyway, there's stuff in the forum. e.g http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=774717 where someone reckoned to fix it with ndiswrapper. There are others, too. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Inspiron 1525
I bought one of these laptops today with Vista preinstalled. I loaded the hardy live CD but the wireless doesn't work. Nice laptop - paid £450 for it. I'm sure with a bit of research I'll get the wireless to work with Hardy - what's funny is that the Ubuntu Live CD is much faster than Vista on the hard disk. Nope, 32 bit apps can't address 4GB RAM - It's nothing to do with Ubuntu The 32-bit version only seems to support about 3.5GB out of the box (I'm > sure it's tweak > able to run with more). > > I'd say if you have less than 4GB memory, stick with 32-bit, especially > if you want to use things like the Adobe Flash Plugin. > > -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.org/UKTeam/

The 32-bit version only seems to support about 3.5GB out of the box (I'm sure it's tweak able to run with more). I'd say if you have less than 4GB memory, stick with 32-bit, especially if you want to use things like the Adobe Flash Plugin. [ubuntu-uk] Inspiron 1525
I have followed up all the most helpful advice that I have received by ordering the Inspiron 1525 with the Pentium Dual Core processor. What I would now like to know, please, is when I update from 7.10 to 8.04 would it be best to use the 64 bit version or stick with the 32 bit version? Your advice would be very welcome.
