I use Amarok for my ipod, though admittedly have not tried podcasts or video with it, though I believe it is supposed to work. The iphone however i believe does not work with linux at all - so you will need itunes for that. What version are you trying to install? Itunes v 8.0 is the most likely one to install and work well in wine. I definitely had it working in the past on Ibex, not tried on jaunty, but can't see why it wouldn't still work. Not only do you get to stream in high-quality mp3 or ogg with no adverts (or preview notices) but you can download however many albums you want in whatever format you want (inc. FLAC, WAV) (though obviously if you buy an album you can do this too). Jamendo is also worth a look. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Amazon Mp3 Play.com We7 Spotify Last.fm Magnatune and these are just off the top of my head. The list of alternatives to iTunes gets longer every day. Give them a go, you might surprise yourself as to how easy it is to change provider. I use iTunes on a Mac with two iPods and there's other stuff that iTunes sadly does over and above music downloads. * Podcast management is better than any other combined download and syncing tool on Ubuntu (IMO) * Firmware updates to the player can only be done via iTunes (as far as I can tell). * Syncing everything to the right categories so the menus make sense on the player. Don't get me wrong, I hate iTunes, but sadly it works. Cheers, Al. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Yep - I went through the same discovery a few months ago. Songbird is about as close as you can get todate and is getting better rapidly, but it is not quite there yet. I reckon a few more months and it will be *very* close... For now though, bite the bullet and either dual-boot or run a Virtual Machine. We chose the latter using VirtualBox; you'll really need the PEUL version for USB support.
