Re: [ubuntu-uk] Rdesktop working when Tsclient does not

2010-03-10 Thread Markie
Hi Liam,

Try installing gnome-rdp in Ubuntu from the software center menu, it give
you options to add profiles and resize the screen, its a front end on the
rdesktop command I believe.

Im not sure why tsclient doesnt work, I would have thought they both use the
sam port numbers if they support the same RDP protocol.

Thanks

Mark

 Both are patched fully up-to-date.

I would like to use the Ubuntu machine to access the remote desktop on
the Windows server. I normally use the Terminal Services client to do
this, but it will not connect. It will from my XP laptop, it will from
my Macs, but not from Ubuntu.

Googling for info on this problem, eventually I found this:

 surprise it worked instantly.

The snag is, I'd prefer the resizable window and so on of tsclient to
 rdesktop.

Any ideas why tsclient won't connect when rdesktop will?

It's not a firewall issue - neither machine has one on.
It's not a routing issue - there is no routing, they're on the same
hub. Not switch, hub. Direct circuit.

Does not matter if I pick RDP or RDPv5 in tsclient - it eventually
times out (very slowly - after about 2min)
 .
It's not a user account issue. There are only 2 accounts on the server
  both work.

You could try using grdc (which has apparently recently been renamed
remmina. It was certainly grdc in the repos until Jaunty, I've not used it
since). I've found it to be far more reliable than tsclient and I believe it
has resizable windows that can show either scroll bars or scale the remote
desktop to fit.

Thanks for the suggestions!

The odd thing is, both worked, and when searching the Software
Centre I found yet another one, too - Remotedesktop. This enabled
me to trace why they all worked but TSclient didn't. Apparently, at
least in TSclient, you *need* to have the connect to console
tickybox checked. If not, I think it tries to create a /new/ session
on the server /as well as/ the console, since my server isn't a
Terminal Server, it only supports 1 session so this operation fails.
Eventually.

Now that I know this, I can use TSclient have removed the others.

Many thanks!
