If they're both linux then i've found NFS to work best for file sharing,
just set up the server on on PC then mount it like a normal file system
on the client PC. Setup Howto:

Hi, well I am getting used to the sharing of Windows folders from one
computer to another, but I am having problems connecting to Ubuntu files
from one to another. I am thinking it might be the fact that I am using
Wubi to run Ubuntu on my PC and Laptop. The netbook is Ubuntu anyway.

How do I share files from the laptop to the pc?

Thank you.

John.

Hwyl John,

That's correct, you can just run the 'shares-admin' command without
the need for the gksudo in front.

Policykit is a security technology that is used when a command needs
to run with admin/root privileges. I'm afraid that's all I know about
it, but you don't need to know more in order to share a folder...

Neil.

John, easiest method I found is to right click on the folder that you
want to share and then select sharing options. Normally sets it all
up fine from there...

If you want to find a shared folder that's on a windows machine, then
select Places -> Network and browse around there :-)

No need to run shares-admin with gksudo - it uses Policykit for

Hi,

I don't have it either. Although you can get the app by opening it
from the terminal.

gksudo shares-admin

Or you can share folders individually by right clicking on them and
selecting "Sharing options". This will install all the nessessary
packages if they are not already present.

Hope that helps.

Ciarán

[ubuntu-uk] Setting up shared folders using samba

2009-05-07 Thread John
I am trying to follow this video to set up shared folders between my
network. I have managed to get to the adding icons on the desktop, but
then it says to go into System>Administration>Shared Folders, but in my
Administration, there is no Shared Folders Option. Can somebody show me
how to get that to show up in my Administration drop down menu.

That is the screencast I'm watching.

Thank you,

John.
